How did we lose to Indiana twice?

I think this type of situation exists all over college basketball. Sort of a moxie/curse thing. I heard after Butler beat Villanova this past weekend that Butler has given them fits ever since joining the conference, despite 'Nova being a much better team most of the time. It seems like the Hoosiers always play us better than I expect.

I'd love to see them again in the BTT, though.

They play very tight, tough man defense and are very quick to the ball. Pedestrian ball movement by the Hawks in game 1 resulted in Iowa having 5 assists for the game and it was lights out. In the second game, and I know the refs called every little thing on the Hawks, but the hodgepodge of a lineup that Fran put on the floor the last 3-4 minutes of the 1st half to me was the biggest factor. A 7-8 point lead became a 1 point deficit in that timeframe. I agree with keeping starters with 2 fouls on the bench for the 2nd half but to do the same with bench players makes zero sense not to mention the tight leash on Joe T.

They're the last team I want to see in the tournament. Already got beaten twice. Lose to them a 3rd time and you can kiss that 2 seed good bye.

We won't get a 2 seed if we lose our first BTT game, regardless of who it is. I like our chances of beating Indiana if we face them again.

I liked our chances the first 2 times. Didn't work out so well. Basketball is about matchups and for whatever reason we don't match up well with them. Shot 37% and 38% against them and had no answer for Jackson-Davis.

For whatever reason Race Thompson gave Garza trouble both times.

The fronting combined with ball pressure made it hard to get Luka the ball.

Luka actually got the ball quite a bit. He just couldn't do much with it when he received it. He scored some points but he was a combined 16 of 36 for 44% with 6 turnovers. Indiana is a smallish team but their quickness and athleticism inside really bothered him as they swarmed him every time he had the ball.

Horses for courses. as mentioned above they are just a bad match up for the Hawks. Do Not want to see across from Hawks in B1G tourney.

Chalk this up to sh!t happens.

Indy has better athletes across the board than Iowa. But they're not a good shooting team and are wildly inconsistent. Combine that with poor perimeter shooting by the Hawks in those games and it gives you a mediocre B1G team that had Iowa's number.

People can say they are a bad matchup, but when a good team plays a mediocre team the good team SHOULD find a way to win. If everybody else beats them and you can't, that's a collective fail, Coaches and players.

Yes, they are scrappy, they aren't horrible, but if you can't outscore that Team you've just played bad, and playing bad against mediocre teams get you beat.

If the BTT worked out that Iowa were to play Indiana in the Semi's, we should throw a parade and be thankful.

Not a very good basketball team. Lost to MSU twice and will finish under .500.
that loss at Minny when we had a 7 pt lead with 44 (or so ) seconds left was another WTF of the season

blowing the game at home vs OSU was bad

that's 4 games the Hawks could have easily won

Had we won those 4 games, it would have put us at 16-2 instead of 12-6 and since the conference champion is being decided by winning percentage, we would be on our way to our 1st conference championship in 42 years

assuming both Michigan & Iowa win their last 2 games:

18-2 (.900) IOWA
15-2 (.882) Michigan

I'm looking at it like Indiana showed Fran what needs to improve. And, did it again just to make sure he's paying attention. We will benefit from this or it will be a short NCAA tournament run.

Don't disagree with the match-up argument. I guess I would add that if we play Indiana a 3rd time and still can't figure out how to deal with this matchup issue and shoot better than 38% against a bubble team at best, then chances are we aren't going to do so well in the NCAA Tourney, anyway.

Iowa has consistently struggled in games where officials allow grabbing, holding and heavy contact and misplace their whistles. Indiana, Illinois, first half Michigan could have all changed in Iowa’s favor if zebras knew how to call a foul.

Gary Barta. Whether he did anything to them or not doesn’t matter. They seem to be using him as motivation for whatever reason.

Indiana would probably win game 3 if they play again. This is a piss poor match up for Iowa...and Indiana knows they are the better team. Sometimes you have to give credit where credit is due.
It may be a bad matchup as you said, But your comment that they know they are the better team is ridiculous, because they are NOT the better team. May be a bad matchup, and maybe we played like crap, but the records for the ENTIRE year against the same teams is what it is, and they are clearly not "The better team". Illinois just piss pounded Michigan without Ayo, are they the better team? OSU just got beat up by MSU, are Spartans better then OSU? Really, the same Spartans that Iowa swept, including running them out of the Breslin Center worse then any BIG team in history? If this season shows us anything its that you have to show up for each game, and there are NO pushovers in this conference, but at the end of the day you are what your record says you are, (Thanks Denny Green), and I'll take Iowa this season over Indiana all day and twice on Sunday.
