We met when we were in high school - 11th grade for me, 9th grade her. Her dad was a career Army guy, they were headed to his next station in Germany & she, her mom, and siblings were temporarily living in my hometown waiting for military quarters large enough for their family (her mom's parents had moved to the town I grew up in). We met at the school, started dating, and kept in touch long-distance for years; sometimes I'd go visit where they were, sometimes she'd come visit me. After I graduated from FSU, we talked about her moving back to where I was (back in my hometown, her family was in DC). She moved in November, with the expectation that we'd be engaged by the end of June.
So I made dinner reservations at a nice restaurant on the evening of June 30. On the 29th, we were going out to a movie; I detoured to the school, to the exact place where we'd first met, and popped the question.

Very risky. If there were any students there after hours they would have roasted you in the middle of your proposal. They're mean.

Nice story, but I have to ask, were you faithful to her all those years you did the long-distance thing?

We went up to Decorah to spend the day doing a little hiking, exploring, and brewery stops. I proposed up on Pulpit Rock.

What year was that? The no pic and I had some fun there one evening. We were visiting the inlaws and needed to "get away" so told them we were going to get a beer.

What year is the pic from? Not sure, just grabbed off of google. I proposed in 2023 though.
