How some people who actually get paid to understand how the economy works see a potential Trump presidency

16WINSTONCOLUMNtableREDUX.jpg

Those things you speak of existed during Trumps first four years also.

Okay? That doesn't invalidate anything I've said. A 10% tariff and tax cuts will create inflationary pressures. That's just how it works.

Republican voters never learn. They’re simple thinkers. They look at an old man and that’s all they see. They can’t compare administration accomplishments with Trump’s criminal group. Not to mention all the people who got the hell out of his administration. They refuse to see this easy stuff. Both siders are worse. That first 15 minutes of the debate equated the 2 men and it, in their minds, solidified the narrative for them.

A second Trump presidency is something we aren’t going to recover from. Project 2025.
If only everyone could be as smart as you Tom 😂

Plus boomers won't pass their wealth to the next generation. Gen X isn't big enough to support the economy. Millennials don't have enough money. Next ten years won't look pretty.
What do you mean by "boomers won't pass their wealth to the next generation."? I think we're setting up for the greatest wealth transfer in history as the boomers die off.

Huey acts like they’re goi g to put all their money in a pile and burn it. The money for some boomers may not go to their kids, but it will go to charities and other Nobel entities. I am planning to leave my wealth to my family.

Yeah. I'm not sure what he's referring to, but it's already happening and will accelerate dramatically over the coming years.

You don’t know what he’s referring to but it’s happening? I’m sure I’m just a bit confused. Can you elaborate?

And if we couple that with stifling legal immigration as Trump is suggesting, the situation will only become much worse. Where is the labor backfill going to come from since we’re already experiencing a large labor shortage currently?

So the exact opposite of his first term up until covid?
To claim prices weren’t escalating during Trump’s first 3 years is shear ignorance..what was worrisome during Trumo@s term was the poorly constructed tax cut and tge “cuts” Trump made to the nation’s safety net to validate the fact we could afford his tax cuts. Cuts to the nation’s public health system proved to be particularly distressing as Covid spread across the world.

Pre-Covid inflation averaged 2% during Trump's term in office, tax cuts resulted in increased tax revenue, and the health system developed multiple covid vaccines,... Not concerned about another Trump administration.

The cost of living has increased about 20% since Biden took office, that is what people feel every single day. How do you explain that away - by surmising that it would have been worse under Trump??

Bullshit. After the initial panic from the debate, they’ve had a few days to collect new talking points. Haven’t you heard? Biden had a cold that night.
That was within an hour of the debate being over. Anything about Biden is still better than the rapist felon. Too many people still argue that. That's why we are effed in about 6 months if Trump wins.

Republicans vote for Republicans. Why do you expect them to see things the way you see them and completely flip parties and vote for the other side suddenly? Your best bet if that more of them dislike the choices than the Dems who decide to sit it out.

And no one who was paying attention, equated them the other night. Trump lied and Biden drooled…and lied.. Two completely different versions of terrible.
Well, I guess because the Democrats here wouldn't be supporting Joe Biden if he was a rapist. If his family made billions under his administration. If he had ripped off taxpayers charging them for SS to stay at his resorts. If he hadn't released his tax returns. If he had started a fake college to grift. If he declare bankruptcy 6 times. If he had cheated on all of his wives. If he cheated with a porn star while his wife was pregnant and then paid her off. Those are just a few of the DESPICABLE things that would have gotten people like me, to not vote for the Democratic candidate.

I wouldn't be here bullshitting everybody that Nikki Haley or Chris Christie were just as bad as that.

What the fvck is wrong with you? Seriously. You never stop being part of the problem.

Please overlook the fact there were NO GLOBAL WARS when Trump was president. He had COMPLETE RESPECT and a healthy dose of fear. Putin invaded Crimea when Obama was President. Didn't try anything when Trump was President. Trump brokered a mid-east peace deal, and ISIS was GONE!
What GLOBAL wars are going on, since you seem to think there are some.

Trump didn’t negotiate shit. It’s amazing you just regurgitate Trumps false brags. Do you also think he knows more about the economy, military, pandemics and infrastructure than anyone else? Did you finish middle school? I have my doubts.

lol. Tell us more about how great he did at the SOTU and he’s totally fine. Then tell me I’m part of the problem.

His administration negotiated agreements between several Arab countries and Israel. Or are you going to childishly push back on that too?

I'm not huey and I'm far from an expert and haven't read extensive studies on this but I did read something awhile back that basically said since modern medicine will likely allow boomers to live longer in retirement many of them are going to blow a vast amount of their wealth on assisted living and nursing home type places that will cause quite a bit of wealth to not be passed down. Just something I saw I thought I would add.

This is what old people do,.. Boomers have more money though, so there's a better chance that a lot of it will be passed on

I think Huey must have been told by his parents that he’s getting squat.

Possession of $$ is strictly transitionary. Even us “boomers@ will pass on….Our biggest failure in life is that we failed to figure out a way to take all this money and wealth with us, I guess…Rhe free uis no doubt in my mind however that our successors will surpass us boomers, correct all out mistakes and make this world a more perfect place. ;)

This is true to a great extent. The cost of healthcare and care-giving is incredibly expensive in this country. The cost for providing in-home 24x7 caregiving for my MIL is around $250,000 per year. That doesn't include medical and other expenses. The percentage of people who can afford that is exceedingly small so most end up in Medicare funded facilities that will drain your assets if they are left unprotected. This is why trusts and asset protection planning is so important to address well before these situations become an issue.

The net effect of this situation is that the concentration of wealth will continue to accelerate along with this transfer of wealth among an increasingly narrow slice of society. The wealthiest among us can afford these types of expenses but they will consume much of what the majority of boomers have in terms of inheritance. I'm not sure what the solution to that is. Maybe what we will see is a return to more extended families living together in order to provide care to older family members and preserve those assets. I know conservatives hate the idea, but taxes have historically been the only means of addressing this problem of massive wealth inequality throughout our history. There simply aren't a lot of other options.

Change that profile pic. Come on, man. That's nasty.

Move’m out to the curb and let nature take its course! Once your $$ is gone, you are of little use to anyone any way. Libs are way too sensitive about this kind of stuff. How does respect for others and empathy for their situation make for a better society? America needs ri get tougher! America first!
