Was going to participate but I have a horrible and most uncomfortable flu. So, how did things work out for those of you how were there? How much money was raised? Best jumper? Best costume? Give me all the facts, please.

The Plunge was great, as usual. Jesse Donnenworth (wrestling head trainer and awesome dude) and his niece won best costume as “Fire and Ice” from the critically acclaimed film, “Blades of Glory”. They stayed in character until their jump and were absolutely hilarious. Jesse even showed off some splendid choreography.

Turnout was strong and everyone had a blast, typical of this event. The coaches jumped early as usual. The HWC crew turned out in force and jumped. There were quite a few first-time jumpers, which is always great to keep fundraising for this event strong.

Wrestlers in attendance included Marinelli, Kaleb Young, Pat Lugo, Austin DeSanto, Jayden Eierman, Cody Chittum, Abe Assad, and Tony Cassioppi. Might be missing a few. Matt McDonough was there having a good time also.

Steven Grace did double duty — jumped and filled in for Kyle Beaird as MC. Did a great job, just as he does as PBP guy with Mark.

Marinelli won the fundraising battle with a late donation that put him just ahead of Ironside, who always raises an insane amount. The total raised was $153,000+ — strong work by the jumpers and donors.

Ryan Key did a super job of organizing, as always. Smiles all around. Great time.

By the way, Beatty was taking video of the event (reception, awards, etc.) and the jump. He’ll probably be posting some video online in the coming days in case people want a good laugh at the jumpers’ expense and/or to get a feel for the evening.

Just a plug for Beatty — dude is killing it as executive director of the HWC. Incredible enthusiasm, very organized, extremely personable, and has upgraded most aspects of the HWC including the website, fundraising software, online presence, fan outreach, etc. In addition, Brad Eldeen is carrying on the strong tradition of HWC presidents, taking over from Randy Novak, who also did a tremendous job.

Brad, Randy, and their predecessors have all been volunteers — taking from their personal time outside of their busy careers to help the cause. Chad is the first salaried executive director, and it was a tremendous move to bring him on. It’s just too big of a job at this point for a volunteer (and it probably was too big for a volunteer while Randy was president, but through some impressive dedication and hard work he got the job done anyway).

Chad is absolutely perfect for the job, and his love of HWC/Iowa wrestling shines through in everything he does. If you run into Chad and/or Brad, I suggest you thank them for all they do. They deserve our appreciation and are making a huge impact moving the HWC forward, building on the efforts of those who have gone before them.

The plunge was great! One of my favorite events because it's accessible to all!

We have fans of the team and Coaches, as well as jumpers, fans and family!

We met our goal of 150k! There was no snow on the ground and that made the set up a little faster!

Thanks to all who jumped and donated!
