HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (WXIX/Gray News) - A Kentucky man is facing charges after officials said he lived with his dead wife’s decaying body for over a week.
The Highlands Heights Police Department said Tyler Hern has been charged with abuse of a corpse.
Police said they were called to a home on Grey Stable Lane in Highland Heights for an unresponsive person Monday.
Officers said the wife of Tyler Hern, identified as 37-year-old Laura Hern, was found dead at the scene, lying on their bed.
Authorities determined Laura Hern had been dead for at least a week.
The police report said Tyler Hern lived in the same apartment with his dead wife during that time. He had even used his wife’s cell phone to text family members in an attempt to hide her death.
“Through investigation, Hern admitted to utilizing his wife’s phone to text family members when they were checking on her well-being in an attempt to conceal her death,” police wrote in the report.
Police said Tyler Hern is being held in the Campbell County Detention Center. His bond was set at $500,000.
The circumstances surrounding Laura Hern’s death are under investigation.
