That didn't last long!:

Hy-Vee, one of the largest grocers in Iowa, has announced plans to transition all of its remaining Wahlburgers restaurants to Market Grille, starting this week.

The new direction will affect several Corridor Wahlburgers locations, according to the restaurant’s location list:

  • 4035 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids
  • 5050 Edgewood Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids
  • 1914 Eighth St., Coralville
  • 3285 Crosspark Rd., Coralville
  • 1125 N. Dodge St., Iowa City

Beginning Feb. 4, all Hy-Vee restaurants will feature a new breakfast menu, with new lunch and dinner menus rolling out over the course of February.

The new menus will focus on “fan favorites” like burgers, BLT and club sandwiches, pork tenderloin sandwiches, wings and wontons.

Hash browns will return with the breakfast menu, alongside omelets, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, French toast, and a breakfast burrito. In a Jan. 22 press release, the brand said the new menu was designed to offer a wide variety at an affordable price.

Market Grille locations will offer extended breakfast hours until 2 p.m. on weekends, with a brunch buffet at select locations. Most locations will have counter service.

After the transition, Hy-Vee will have a total of 221 Market Grille and Market Grille Express locations across the Midwest.

Wahlburgers, founded in 2011, started coming en mass to Iowa as Hy-Vee converted Market Grille restaurants to the brand. The first Wahlburgers at Hy-Vee opened in 2018, and many more followed in 2020.

The restaurant chain was founded by the star-studded Wahlberg family, including actor Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg, founding member of New Kids on the Block.

Not sure you can really call Mark Wahlberg a "founding member" of NKOTB. He was gone by the time they were a fully-formed group.

Hy-vee fuking sucks.

There is - what I assume - a new commercial of some chud exec saying: hy-vee has lowest prices bar-none and welcomes people to prove him wrong.

I think he may be retarded

I've never been at an actual Wahlburgers but Hy-Vee just seemed like there was a burger section with the Wahlburgers name slapped on it. Maybe if there was an actual Wahlburgers section inside the store it would have performed better

My aunt used to work there in the 80’s. Said the helpful smile in every aisle was more of a cringe. At the beginning of the shift every employee gets a corncob shoved up their butt.

I think everyone minus the Wahlburger himself and Hy-Vee CEOs thought it was a good idea. Next to flop the huge candy aisles, the shoe section, and the nail salons.
You forgot the huge beauty supply section, and the big cooking demonstration area that sits empty every single day.
And, the three separate apps they launched, alongside multiple 'rewards' programs (Plus, Perks, whatever is next...)
And, the Fuel Saver program that appears to have mostly dried up. And, the rebrand of their convenience stores.
And, the new add campaign where they promote they'll be lowering prices, admitting we were overpaying all along?

Don't forget the cops.

It doesn't.

"including actor Mark Wahlberg

I think you're right. The sentence threw me off. I'd have gone with "The restaurant chain was founded by the star-studded Wahlberg family including actor Mark Wahlberg, and Donnie Wahlberg, founding member of New Kids on the Block."

When Pearson ran things, yes.

Today...not so much.
The company has experienced explosive growth financially and geographically. That benefits the employees that town it. You may not like the direction where they are headed but Hy-Vee is doing well.

They could just be a grocery store. That's all I really want from my grocery stores.

I know it's only one person's opinion, but one of my neighbors worked in lower mgmt and said putting Edeker in charge was a mistake.
Perhaps things have gotten better now that he's been demoted/removed?

I wish the old Econofoods model still existed. Warehouse like atmosphere. Minimal employees. Customers boxed or bagged their own groceries. As a result, prices were lower. They nailed that style. Then, they started trying to be Hy-Vee and went out of business.

"What’s everyone think about Randall Edekers 1million dollar Retirement party, the flowers alone were $100,000. They even bought him a $40,000 Rolex.. As an employee owner I do not approve of that. He burned the ships to the ground (relationships) and now he will retire and watch the company suffer from all of his bad decisions he made."

we used to be HUGE hy-vee shoppers but in the last 5 years their prices have got outrageous and they keep making stupid changes

that has pushed us to shop Aldi and Fareway a lot more and use HV only when it's convenient

The only reason I ever go there is they have a real solid dairy alternative selection.
