Hy-Vee to transition all restaurant locations from Wahlburgers to Market Grille

Who knows, it may be the same.

Corporate culture is hard...
The relatives I have that work in retail say it’s better than working at Wal Mart. Low bar though. Think a second cousin worked at Hy Vee a few years ago. Said it was about the same as our Aunt described.

I’ve never understood the appeal of Hy-Vee when there are more affordable options. Now that Aldi is expanding in Iowa, and there’s a Fareway in most communities, why choose to give your business to a company that feels like it’s moving closer and closer to Walmart.

We use the pharmacy, and occasionally the bakery for a cheesecake and the deli for a bucket of chicken; other than that I much prefer the other options.

I’m not a Fareway fan anymore. Our local
Hy-vee is just as cheap if not cheaper, has a much better alcohol selection and is open on Sunday.

When the Savage one opened up in probably 2017? Couple friends and I would hit up Market Grille on Sundays for their $10 all you can eat wings and I think 1/2 beer during NFL games. The place was pretty busy. The wings were average but the beer selection was actually pretty good. Once it switched to Walburgers and covid hit it went downhill fast and their deals stopped.

Tangent here, but aside from dining at a grocery store being weird to me, in the back of my mind I am wondering if they are serving up food that is iffy after being pulled from the shelves.

My aunt used to work there in the 80’s. Said the helpful smile in every aisle was more of a cringe. At the beginning of the shift every employee gets a corncob shoved up their butt.
And how long did she work there? Just asking.

Pretty sure I got food poisoning the last time I ate at HyVee in North Liberty…

I’m surprised anyone gets food from that hy-vee.

Want a better burger? Tin Roost is 3 miles away.

Want better Chinese or sushi? Sushiya is 3 miles away.

Want better Chicken? SugaPeach is 3 miles away.

Want better Pizza? Wig N Pen is 3 miles away.

They get ya with those coupons in the mail, so you give them a shot and are reminded they are just average. I don’t mind the chicken but the rest is very meh.

had the Wahlburgers in Dubuque Hy-Vee,

it was really good but a little pricey for what you got, I think for my son & I it ended up being around $40 for lunch. if i'm spending that much for lunch on a weekday I don't' want the atmosphere of old people grocery shopping

"What’s everyone think about Randall Edekers 1million dollar Retirement party, the flowers alone were $100,000. They even bought him a $40,000 Rolex.. As an employee owner I do not approve of that. He burned the ships to the ground (relationships) and now he will retire and watch the company suffer from all of his bad decisions he made."

Whoever does their floral purchasing must suck. I went in to inquire about a dozen red roses around Valentine’s Day and was quoted $225 for a dozen red with greenery, delivered. I started laughing and walked out. Went to Costco for $30 or $40 in a glass vase and took home. No wonder the flowers for his retirement party cost so much.

As a former manager at Hy Vee for over twenty years let me just say that Randy Edecker ruined that place. He was totally star struck with anyone that was semi famous. The Whalburger shit was just kissing Marky Marc’s ass.
