Hypothetically, would we act like Tennessee did if we hired Schiano?

This isn't a KF is going anywhere thread just a what if situation.

The guy is a solid coach. I would certainly hope we wouldn't act that crazy.

He was at Penn St. from 1990-1995. The shower incident happened in 2002....I believe. I do not think he was directly linked to any cover up or rumours of having knowledge of what was going on while he was employed at PSU. If he is completely innocent, I feel sorry for him as his career path has been damaged by a bunch of idiot students. On the other hand, if he was aware of what might be happening with the kids and did not do anything, I do not feel sorry for him in the least. I guess only he knows.

From Washington Post:
Schiano denies, however, this contradicts his denial:
"“He said another assistant coach had come to him in the early ’90s about a very similar situation to mine, and he said that he had — someone had come to him as far back as early as the ’80s about seeing Jerry Sandusky doing something with a boy,” McQueary said.

[Joe Paterno knew of abuse in 1976, according to unsealed testimony]

According to McQueary, Bradley identified Schiano, now the Ohio State defensive coordinator, as the other assistant. In response to a question about whether Bradley had shared details of what Schiano had said, McQueary related a conversation with Bradley".

I'm not going to defend Schiano. But, if this account is accurate, I honestly don't know what I would do this information.

Tennessee is Nebraska South. He probably dodged a bullet. On the other hand, if he did know what was going on at PSU, I wish he had taken the bullet.

I don’t think there is any proof out there about him and PSU. Just one persons hearsay.
But as a football hire I would be dissapointed. But Tennessee the thinks they are better than they are.

The PSU stuff was just a reason for Tennessee fans to throw a tantrum. There's enough history at Tennessee of turning a blind eye to sexual misconduct that I can't believe that's what yesterday was about

They were just pissed off at how undesirable their school has become for attracting a top flight coach, they were delusional enough to think that Gruden was going to leave his cushy MNF gig to coach their team, lol

So laughable. Never coached in college. 95-81 record in the NFL. Makes $6.5 million talking about football on TV. Fans actually thought this would be a good hire? And, that he would accept an offer?:):Do_O

I'm sure there would have been a meltdown on this message board, but I sure as heck would like to think that the good people of Iowa are a little better than the good 'ole boy social media and politician outcry of Tennessee rednecks.

No. I think Iowa fans would be surprised/upset/disappointed, but what happened at Tennessee was a pathetic low. Unless their AD pulls in Gruden, he's a dead man walking.

They don't care about the Sandusky sh**. If they had a 1st tier coach walk through the door with an allegation that is nothing but hearsay, they wouldn't care. They'd defend him. The only reason they brought up Sandusky, is because if for some reason they were criticized about Sandusky, they don't think Schiano is a coach worth defending.

They just didn't like a 19-19 coach that busted at Tampa Bay. They wanted Gruden and they didn't get Gruden.

Absolutely no proof he knew anything about what went on at PSU. This guilt by association thing is very dangerous.

From a football side I would be fine with the hire. He is respected amongst his peers and some of the best coaches in the game, one being Bill Belichek, spoke very highly of him. Brought Rutgers out of nowhere to some prominence in his time there. I think he would do fine at a school like Iowa.

Tennessee fans are dumb, really dumb. That hissy fit had nothing to do with PSU/child molestation and everything to do with them not getting the coach they wanted, Gruden. Now nobody will touch the job. Karma.

I am not defending Schiano, but McQueary heard a rumor from Bradley that someone else (Schiano) saw something years before. That is not proof, that is potentially a bad game of telephone.
"Hey, did you know about Sandusky?"
"no, but I heard someone else saw something in the 90's and didn't tell anyone"
"no sh*t! who was it?"
"I am not sure, Schiano maybe, yeah I think I heard it was him"

Bradley: "Schiano saw Sandusky rape a boy in the shower, 100% certain"

This whole thing snowballed when that nut job Clay Travis started going off about it. He got everyone riled up about it and was very loud and proud about what he had done on his radio show and Facebook.
The fan base is like Nebraska, still living off the past.
This isn't late 90's Phil Fulmer Tennessee, this is Derek Dooley, Butch Jones Tennessee

They are on to what, maybe their 6-7th choice now after Gundy turned them down for reportedly $7 million a year. Now they are going to end up giving crazy money to their 8th,9th, or 10th option. That person goes into negotiations knowing around what they offered Gundy and knowing that they have that kind of money for him and a staff.

Tennessee fans voted for Donald, yeah they almost care what happens to children...... it was their excuse for thinking he couldn't win there. Because they have been winning so much lately....

both Bradley and Schiano deny this and the investigation never included them. So, there is nothing there

Yup if I remember correctly a certain quarterback from there that starts with an M dodged a very embarrassing sexual charge during his time there.

Agreed that this is just cover to object to the hire.

On the other hand, while is hearsay evidence that was never corroborated, I tend to view everyone at Penn State as complicit. That stuff went on for decades, it’s not believable to me that only one person saw something.
