I think the reality is this: college football is hard.
And now with NIL and the transfer portal it is exponentially harder.
For example, if you asked any Hawkeye fan before the season if they would take Lincoln Riley and his entire USC roster, almost 100% would say YES in a heartbeat, but alas they are currently 3-4.
Oklahoma is 4-3.
Kentucky and the desired Mark Stoops is 4-3
Florida is 4-3.
Florida State is horrendous.
Washington went form the National Championship to 4-3 in a matter of months (yes I know there was a coaching change).
Nebraska.....still sucks after multiple coaches.
Michigan is 4-3
I guess what I am trying to say is anymore in this day and age winning 7 to 9 games consistently is going to be incredibly tough. People will say "look at Indiana, they found the right guy and can turn it around in 1 year, why can't we?"......well guess what they will probably have 10 wins this year and get smoked in a bowl game (just like KF and the hawks have done many times) and then at best be a consistent 7-9 win team.....we are talking Indiana here folks.
Ultimately, unless you are the absolute cream of the crop with the deepest pockets in the country, the rest of the teams will be fighting for scraps (even worse than its always been).
So to answer the OP's question.....it doesn't matter who we get to replace KF. The new guy may catch lightning in a bottle a year or two, but ultimately we will stay middle of the pack in the overall scheme of NIL college football if we are lucky (or we become Nebraska)
