Who would we get?

I agree, I'd prefer LeVar over anyone on the current staff. I have no interest in Polasek—he simply lacks the social skills needed for a public facing role as demanding as Iowa's head coach. As for Stoops, I believe he's past his prime. What we need is someone younger, who’s coached under a proven winner, and still has the drive to be innovative. A coach who brings a fun, dynamic brand of football that top players are excited to be a part of.

If a guy can get my team into the CFP on a regular basis then I'm ok with a lack of social skills.

I keep thinking about the Tim Lester hire. Of course, he's getting a nice paycheck, but would he have come here if KF was planning on retiring? Or, maybe he was promised a shot at the HC job?

Personally, I think the coaching stays intact for 2025, much to the disappointment of many. I think a change is needed, but I don't think it's coming.

Lester was an analyst the year prior. I'd go work a job for a year if I was making $1 million.

So Indiana’s tenth coach since KF started starts 7-0 in his first year, so yeah, Indiana is the model.
There’s a lot that goes into the equation over the years. Do they have different ADs, Presidents, Regents, Donors, etc., that led to the current environment of motivated changed. The one thing they are a model for is not sitting on your hands when you decide change is needed and, currently, most importantly, what your NOW goals and objectives are for the future. Success is never guaranteed, but once you have stakeholders that buy into your goals, it’s time to strike. They did that.

I think the reality is this: college football is hard.

And now with NIL and the transfer portal it is exponentially harder.

For example, if you asked any Hawkeye fan before the season if they would take Lincoln Riley and his entire USC roster, almost 100% would say YES in a heartbeat, but alas they are currently 3-4.

Oklahoma is 4-3.

Kentucky and the desired Mark Stoops is 4-3

Florida is 4-3.

Florida State is horrendous.

Washington went form the National Championship to 4-3 in a matter of months (yes I know there was a coaching change).

Nebraska.....still sucks after multiple coaches.

Michigan is 4-3

I guess what I am trying to say is anymore in this day and age winning 7 to 9 games consistently is going to be incredibly tough. People will say "look at Indiana, they found the right guy and can turn it around in 1 year, why can't we?"......well guess what they will probably have 10 wins this year and get smoked in a bowl game (just like KF and the hawks have done many times) and then at best be a consistent 7-9 win team.....we are talking Indiana here folks.

Ultimately, unless you are the absolute cream of the crop with the deepest pockets in the country, the rest of the teams will be fighting for scraps (even worse than its always been).

So to answer the OP's question.....it doesn't matter who we get to replace KF. The new guy may catch lightning in a bottle a year or two, but ultimately we will stay middle of the pack in the overall scheme of NIL college football if we are lucky (or we become Nebraska)

Having a lack of social skills by no means is an indicator for success. When choosing a coach between two candidates that have identical resumes but one is a natural leader (social skills) while the other is a hermit (think Todd Lickliter), who are you going to pick?

I agree and find this plausible, however if that is what fans are relegated to expect then (in the words of the Indiana coach) it needs to be entertaining as well.

I don't think it's fair to compare Polasek to Lickliter. Definitely not the same personality.

After Kalen Deboer gets fired at Alabama rumor is they lose 3 or more he's out . He will be looking for employment and hopefully we have a vacancy. Other then that Ryan Grubb because they are midwest guys. I also think if and when this happens there will be a lot of good coaches who are going to be interested in this job. Matt Entz former ndsu now at usc.

I think Saban is done for good, but personally I would offer Urban Meyer a blank check and give him a 5 year contract.

Yeah yeah…..the usual suspects will say there is no way Urban Meyer would come to Iowa. But you never know unless you try. Nobody thought a coach like Johnny Orr would go to Iowa State, either.

It’s funny….most of those who say a top coach would never come to Iowa are generally the ones who present themselves as “better” fans because they are always supportive, positive and don’t criticize. Yet they apparently think so little of the University of Iowa’s football program they don’t believe a top coach would come here.

Ironic…..
LOL - Blank check - Our fans won't even contribute to NIL; the University sees that and they aren't going to spend even close to what Kirk currently makes toward any new coach in 2029.

Might be a bad take, but would Pat Fitzgerald be a bad HC hire? He’s certainly willing to have mobile QBs and high scoring offenses, he’s a defensive minded guy, and had success with far fewer resources than Iowa. He’s willing to let his coordinators do their thing.

I wondered the same, but I think he’s probably still too tainted from the hazing scandal.

I’d be willing to give any qualified coach whose last name isn’t Ferentz a shot at this point.

…or promote Lester to HC, promote Wallace as DC and bring in Mack leftwich as OC. Levar assistant HC and hope they all stay…
