I’d like to congratulate St. Peter’s for achieving more in 3 days than we’ve achieved in 23 years…

I don't think that's fair. Kudos to St. Petes but do you want to get 1 sweet 16, two tournament wins, zero ranked seasons, zero players in the NBA, zero major conference tournament titles, one game beating top 25 teams, zero major conference POTY, zero national POTY, etc. in that same stretch?

I recognize the disappointment, and feel it just like you, but recognize that the Hawks have been pretty solid for several years. Something has to change in the national tournament but I wouldn't ever trade one sweet 16 for all that this program has accomplished.

I would. We haven’t accomplished much.

How would like to be Illinois who has more in State talent than almost 99% of the states in the country and they haven't been to the sweet 16 in 17 years.

Would you like to be working in sales, be the world's best at presentation and networking....but never be able to actually make a sale?

That is Iowa basketball right now. All kinds of accolades over the years with some tremendous teams, but can't finish the deal, while "sales rookie" teams like St. Peters, Providence, Oral Roberts, Loyola, UNI, etc. are showing us up. Makes all the other crap seem meaningless (which it pretty much is).

BTW - Iowa also has essentially no major conference titles or relevant players in the NBA.

I wonder how long that "salesman" would last in the real world?

I don't think he was discrediting what Iowa has accomplished, rather he was calling out what Iowa hasn't accomplished. Not getting to the second weekend doesn't take any of that away, but a sweet 16 trumps anything Iowa has accomplished since 1999.

That is one humbling list. Like I posted in another thread, you'd think Iowa would have accidentally made the Sweet 16 at some point. This is probably too hard to research, but I would have to conclude that Iowa has had more regular season success than any team not on that list (wins/season, upper division conference finishes, conference tourney titles, NCAA appearances, final RPI/NET rankings, etc.) over the past 23 years, and I would guess AINEC. Basically every program with a pulse is on that list...and many without one.

love this research idea. I’m not able to do it myself but I bet you could find some Statcast type Twitter account or even an ESPN entity to do it. Hell, some of the Iowa press guys like Chad and Scott might be able to do that AND benefit from a great article during the dead period next week?

That probably changes tomorrow.

And watching all these teams play makes me realize how bad Iowa recruits at a certain position. How can you not have a top player at the most important position on the floor in 12 plus years as a head coach? Yes, Iowa’s had some ok ones, but the position escapes Iowa like football with qb’s, wr’s, and rb’s.

Too much work but it would be interesting to know which other power conference treats have been to sweet 16 in that time span.

some analytics on sweet 16 and budget would also be interesting.

having been to Jersey City I think it’s amazing what Saint Peters did. To say they even have a campus is a huge stretch of the term and Kentucky’s coach made more money then they spend on their athletic department.

Wait. This is there first trip to the Sweet 16. So didn’t it take them over 100 years to do this?

What is your endgame to the threads you start? I do not see any Iowa fans happy that Iowa lost to Richmond. I have not seen anyone say that Iowa does not need to play better in the tournament. I believe even Fran would agree with this.

That being said, your posts are overly emotional and exaggerated with the capitalizations and bold text to highlight your brilliant insights. You never post anything positive about the team, which would indicate that you do not enjoy the successes that this team has achieved. You wait around until the team loses and then go on a posting barrage. Is your endgame to just make everyone as miserable as you are? We know. Iowa lost. The season is over.

I do not expect the University to make any changes based on what you post on this message board. You may want to contact Barta directly if you truly feel as strongly as you seem to feel based on you posts.

This. Add him to the Irvin88 posts. Another guy who ONLY shows up after a loss and then storms through the threads acting like he's actually a fan. Amazing waste of time and energy......

Just stop. We get it, you hate Iowa Basketball.

I love Iowa b-ball. I hate losing Iowa b-ball! I hate us fielding teams year after year that only has 3-4 Big Ten caliber players on the roster. Only one of our players would start for Richmond. I hate averaging 14 losses per year!

If you truly love Iowa basketball, why do you only make exaggerated posts to bring it down? You constantly rip on the players and the coaches.

Your above post is a perfect example. You claim Iowa only had one player who would start for Richmond. Look at the statistics from that game. There is only one player from Richmond who outperformed his counterpart at Iowa (Gilyard over Bohannon) and that is on a team starting four seniors. Iowa should have better players than Richmond, but your exaggerations get old.

Fran will probably never experience the Sweet 16 unless he turns everything over to Billy Taylor!

Annnndd you’ll never even know St Peters exists in 2 years… just like you didn’t know about them 7 days ago.
Shows how important this tournament really is… Winning it great, everyone else is forgotten.
