I’m guessing the Savannah Bananas are no longer affiliated with an MLB club?

That would be a blast going to games. I'm giggling at the first base coach getting down to the music. And imagining what someone would be thinking if they didn't know what they were getting into.
Agreed. I just can’t see this not being an actual minor league game.

As Pepsi said, they weren’t ever a minor league team. The Sand Gnats used to be a low-A team, but they’ve been gone for years. The Bananas have been a summer collegiate wood bat league (think Cape Cod League). Then they started the “Banana Ball” stuff and split - they were collegiate in the summer and basically an independent ball team around that. They’re dropping the collegiate and just doing the weird/fun stuff.

We watched the televised game last week and it was the longest my family has watched a game in years, also the most fun.

Saw a bananas game on tv last week as well. It was over the top and pretty entertaining.
Guy was doing ‘trick pitches’, 360 spin, charging the hitter upon release, etc…

On a related note I watched a really great documentary a year or two ago called 50 Summers. It focused on the Omaha AAA team and their own history but also about the evolution of minor league baseball in general. Cool film narrated by Rob Riggle. I didn't realize how few teams still exist outside the Iowa Cubs that haven't came up with their own name due to the licensing money they have to pay to keep that name.

Saw this team playing a team called the Party Animals on the espn app tonight and was like wtf? Googled them and I saw a guy get a hit with a flaming bat and became more confused. Took me awhile to figure this out. Weird timing for this thread as I just learned about these guys a few hours ago.

Big fan of this team. The ESPN+ series has been good so far too. Want to make it down to Savannah for a game!

Our team in Lexington SC was originally The Columbia Blowfish named after The Blowfish band and they moved to Lexington SC because Columbia got a single A team Columbia Fireflies which is associated with the Kansas City Royals which use to be the Mets organization. And the Lexington Blowfish are basically college baseball players from South Carolina like Clemson , Coastal Carolina Citadel Winthrop and the Gamecocks
