Took some heat earlier when I said Mike Riley sounded like a retard in interviews.
I didn't realize he really was "challenged".
My bad.

Chirp, chirp - where are all the obnoxious fusker fans on this site? :)

Take a look at Nebby's schedule. There's a good chance they will miss a bowl game.

It was ugly. What else do you want us to say? There are some growing pains with Riley, but as of right now it looks pretty ugly. Not sure to what level he will take us, but as of now it is better than Pelini. I'd rather take some close losses and have a chance to get better (hopefully) vs. giving up 1000 rush yards per game and getting blown out all of the time. Time will tell.

Money says he won't have as many wins as Bo when he gets fired.

Fine line between Iowa's three close wins and Nebraska's three close losses.

Close wins usually come down to coaching. Like Saturday if Nebby runs the clock down to 10 seconds rather than passing twice and giving Illinois 50 seconds to score, Nebby probably wins assuming they've learned how to defend a Hail Mary since their week 1 debacle.

At the risk of asking a very stupid question, I don't get calling Nebby "bugeaters?

Nebraska's original nickname were the Bugeaters back in the day. Iowa's nickname were the Cornhuskers. After Iowa adopted the nickname the Hawkeyes, Nebraska asked for and given permission to use the name Cornhuskers.

I clicked on that link.....and got a real kick out of their point system for being kicked off their board, or their "new moderation policy" or whatever they call it.

Like it's a membership at some exclusive country club or something. Get caught with your shirt untucked, 1 point! Swear on the course, 2 points! Throw your 9 -iron and our extensive security staff reserves the right to hand out an automatic 10 points and you are out of here!!!!

Pretty good stuff.

Ah, I wondered why I was allowed back on.

It's really no different than this board after a loss.

There are always those who cry about the falling sky after a loss, and there are always those who like to visit other boards to watch when another team suffers the same. I try to avoid being either type of message-board fan.

He has a fairly long record at Oregon, that would be a pretty good indication of where Nebraska will be and almost no clue as to why he was hired (except for being the anti-Pellini)

It's been an interesting year. Aside from the Illinois debacle, I've really liked the improvement that the offense has shown. Armstrong looks pretty good in the pocket for the most part. We are really struggling to find a consistent running back. Hoping we can solve that problem soon to balance out our attack. Defense...ugh. That has been tough to watch. Our run D has been OK, but the pass D has been horrible. Hoping we can clean that up and manage a bowl game this year. Pelini didn't recruit well. We're fielding our team with around 34% walkons. Really hoping to add some depth this off season.

I agree with you. Our AD went rogue, and I think that was his main goal. Bring in the anti-Pelini.

No doubt Riley is a better face for nebraska than pelini... but he is not performing as well. Pelini never went 2-3. Nebraska hasn't gone 2-3 since something like 1956. All the neb coaches since then have done better at this point.

Neb isn't giving up 500 yds rushing but they are giving up LOTS of yds through the air and giving up big pass plays at crunch time. Didn't look, but Neb still must be near the worst in pass defense.

As far as blowouts go. Seems to be the year of defense not offense in the B1G. There are no high scoring B1G teams this year, not seeing the 50-60 point scores we saw a lot last year from the big boys. If nebraska makes it through the season without a 30 point loss, I may agree about blow outs. But Riley is definitely under performing right now.

100% agree with you. He is definitely under-performing. I think what it comes down to for the most part is Nebraska is not relevant, and if he loses this year, but doesn't ever have huge blowouts it will be a win. Pelini did get us 9 wins, but also gave us big time memorable blowouts against good teams that all of the writers across the nation like to bring up. I'm not expecting much this year, but Riley better do something next year. All in all, I am not impressed what our AD did by getting Riley. I thought there were better options, but I guess as a fan I have to deal with what my team has been dealt.

To be fair, Bo did win his first three games, but then he lost the next three to put him at 3-3 six games in. I have no confidence that Nebraska will be 3-3 after this weekend, but Bo did have a rough stretch.
