I believe Iowa can cross off Malik Williams from its list....

A UNI college buddy of mine works with the Bloomington, IN area and he truly knows IU BB people. He says Malik is really down to IU and Louisville with Malik's mom favoring Louisville. Both IU and Louisville are major college mens' basketball schools with superior facilities and stage presences. Both have slimy well paid head coaches who would sell their own mother and first born from a national championship, if they have not done so already.

Iowa seems to be the perennial bridesmaid and not the bride in this story. My college friend says Louisville is pushing hard for bigs this year and Luka Garza is another top priority for both IU and Louisville. Indy is expected to lose James Blackman, Thomas Bryant and OG Anunoby to the 2017 NBA Draft. Indiana would only have one man over 6'9" on its current roster before recruiting class commitments. Lots of PT available and Malik would be closest to Fort Wayne home. Likewise for Louisville who is looking for big men in their PF spots. Malik is looking to fit where he can be a face up PF on offense where he can shoot from outside a bit. It does not hurt that Indy's Assembly Hall and KFC Yum! Center (Louisville) are among the top 15 college basketball arenas in America in many commentators' opinions.

Luka's latest rise has drawn new suitors and Iowa's distance from home may be a key factor. I did not like the latest comments I saw from Luka about Iowa. I am only reading what was printed but I do not see Iowa landing Luka. I believe "$lick Rick" Pitino has the NCAA regulator$ in his pocket and nothing will be done about the corrupt Louisville program. A $ign of the time$. Luka seems to love Louisville basketball. ACC ball plays better in the DC area. Again, just my opinion.

I believe Iowa is really down to prospects Goodwin (long shot but future star in the making) and Jack Nunge (project with talent)before crash landing. People on this site have said they don't see Goodwin as a PG but a couple of new commentators have evaluated Goodwin's talents and have projected him as a CG with the potential to be a PG with a NBA prototype body. Goodwin could play multiple floor spots and would be a factor at Iowa from Day 1. Goodwin and Tyler Cook could make the St. Louis area a profitable recruiting area for the future. Goodwin is having a good summer AAU season and played Michael Porter (and Trae Young Mokan Elite club and beat them soundly this year. Goodwin shut down #3 class star Porter in the second half giving up about 5 inches in height to Porter. And Goodwin's St. Louis eagles did that feat without Jeremiah Tilmon who was recuperating from back problems.

July is coming and after the evaluations are over, CBB commitments will be popping up. Sincerely, Captain Obvious.

Thanks for the observations. It's great we've got top 100 and better recruits Cook, C. McCaffery, Wieskamp and P. McCaffery. No reason to believe we won't continue to improve. But, no, we won't get everyone we go after. Can't sign dozens of players.

What's the youngest McCaffrey ranked? I know they say he's supposed to be better than Connor

I know some BB talent people feel Patrick is ahead of Connor at this similar stage but I did not hear or read anything about Patrick in a ranking for 2019 class. Connor has tumbled a bit in his Rivals ranking (now #90 out of top 150) while Wieskamp has held serve and maybe climbed a bit in status. Connor seems like he will needs a year before he can impact at Iowa and that may be a wise choice.

I know DanL53 has spoken his mind that after Iowa got Maishe Dailey signed that Iowa was probably done with guards with CMac already commitment. I have spoken about my opinion on how Ellingson does not hold much promise for improvement, in my book and I am more than a little wary that JoBo is too small and not fast enough too really be playing B1G basketball effectively. A lot of upper level B1G teams (let alone top 40 MCBB programs) are following the NBA trend toward a bigger (6'3' to 6'6") PG. The Tyler Ulis-es of this world are becoming more rare each year. NBA clubs are not afraid of getting a physical warrior of 6'3"+ and 210lbs. + to play the point nowadays. The smaller, blow by you PG is being traded off for the half court system where pick and roll games and catch and shoot sets on the clock are norm.

Like Dailey, thumbs down on Ellingson, prove me wrong on JoBo. Still want Goodwin.

I checked rivals, scout, espn and 247 and none of them have PMac ranked. Espn only has 121 players from the 2019 class listed in their database and he is one of them. Scout has 99 and he's one of them also. So, there's probably a decent chance that he would be ranked fairly high.

Purdue (West Lafayette: west-central Indiana) is closer to Fort Wayne (northeast Indiana: where I live) than IU. Bloomington is in southern Indiana, south of Indianapolis.

From the accolades at camps and from his AAU coaches Patrick will easily be ranked in the top 100.

By the way, technically he hasn't even been offered but I'm 100% certain he'll be a Hawkeye.

The Boilers are recruiting Malik Williams as well. I don't know if geography will play an integral part in his decision or not, but if it does...they're in good shape.

People Who Annoy You:

I'm sorry, the answer is naggers. He won't live that down.

My guess is Connor is ready out of the gate, nothing about him says needs an extra year to get ready...he has been playing w college kids his whole life and seems to be playing a step ahead mentally than most others according to Barnstormer. The kid will be as seasoned coming in as maybe any Hawk recruit ever.

WOW! That was close!!!

We will have a jumbo pg for the next three years if things play out like many expect. Conner McCaffery might be a point guard as well and he's 6'4". I agree on Ellingson. I have a lot of confidence is JoBo's shooting and think he could be a Jordy Hulls for the hawks. Yes, he'll always be a defensive liability to some extent but his contributions in total will be a net positive.

It's a guards game. You can never have enough good guards. Go for Goodwin.
