Destroyed again in a bowl but this feels so much different. Couldn't be prouder of this team, coaching staff and our great fans. I feel something special brewing this offseason into next season and I can't wait!

Not feeling it, when has a Ferentz team met or exceeded expectations?
This year. They went 12-0.
Smoke and mirrors. Look what happened when they finally played a good team. Totally dominated in every aspect of the game.
Also in 2009, they started out like 22 and finished seventh which is the highest Iowa fonished in the modern era. And for luck, So Wisconsin doesn't have some luck going to their third Rose bowl in 2012 when they finish third in their division behind osu and pens state when they are on sanctions. Yep, that's good fortune. Michigan state had some crazy lucky with the punt vs Michigan the interception off a players back vs Iowa? Yep, they did. Yep, they won at osu with their backup abs but I have never seen osu play that poorly as they did va msu and decide to not give Elliott the ball.
I don't recall any real expectations this year. I'm referring to the 2010 season and any other year Ferentz teams were expected to contend for a BIG title. His teams have to sneak up on people, play the chip on the shoulder card. This was one of those years which ended with a big thud.
It was a rough September through November for them.
I'll be excited that first weekend of September. I have no desire to watch Iowa football right now.
The loss in the big ten championship game was hard to take but not nearly as hard as that fiasco yesterday. Least in the big championship game we looked like we should be there and actually should have probably won. Yesterday we looked as though we didn't know what football was.
+1. I still can't watch the MSU game. In the scheme of things, yesterday's game was meaningless.
Still haven't watched 1 BIG title thing on dvr as was at game. Still can't, Rose was such a beat down already over it and ready for next season, hoops 1st tho Go Hawks!
No thanks, we saw enough kicking yesterday and it wasn't cats more like Hawks.
Oh yeah because it would've been so much better had we lost to all those average trams we usually lose to, ya know, every other year because after all..........we've NEVER GONE 12-0.
Try harder.
One key difference though. The 2010 team wasn't coming off of being humiliated in a major bowl game. I can only hope this causes players to focus even harder in the off season to rectify what went wrong at the end of this season.
Really good point. The last two teams that won a national title didn't play with the same edge the next year.
Remind me which championship Iowa was playing for. National? B1G? You can say what you want, or believe what you want, but yesterday was a meaningless exhibition game.
I think his point was that losing a big game may be a better off-season motivator than winning it.
Even last year's bowl loss in a pretty mediocre bowl, which may be a gratuitous characterization, served Iowa well. Getting embarrassed may even prove to be a better motivator. Let's use this Rose Bowl experience for more good next year.
I think you should have stopped at "met"...since Ferentz teams typically fall short when they are expected to be good. If this year didn't "exceed" your expectations than you have unrealistic expectations. It's safe to say 99.9% of the fan base did not expect Iowa to have a 12-0 season with a chance at the CFB playoffs back in August.
Winning a Rose Bowl is NEVER meaningless....sad that some people now believe that. SMH
