I can't get past the Rose Bowl

Christian McCaffery for Heisman 2016! Stud.

Stanford expected to win and felt comfortable at the RB...the Hawks were still smarting from the close MSU loss...and seemed more than content and a bit in awe of the RB surroundings.

The way the Big Ten title game ended and how poorly Iowa played in the Rose Bowl I am sure is motivation for the team this year.

You had better believe it! The players were PISSED. The seniors absolutely despised having to go out like that. The guys that remained resolved to come back strong this year and are working their tails off. My kid has set 3 PRs (personal records) and is within striking distance of the specialist record for pro-agility, for instance.

Outclassed when it matters? Hmmm. Interesting way to look at it when it mattered 13 games before that to get in the position they were in.

Bobby Bowden and Bob Stoops have both said the big games are the ones you lose. Fans don't care about the games you win, just the ones you lose.

No doubt. Will be used as motivation for this years team. Also, won't be a preseason top ten team, ESPN and Cowherd narrative, Nebraska narrative about how good they are supposed to be also can be used as motivation. In 04 and 09, Iowa was preseason 19 and 22. Probably where they'll be this year which could be a good thing.

I was at the Rose Bowl and drove back to Vegas that very day. It was fairly easy to move on from it.It was an ass beating, nothing more nothing less. I'm excited for the season coming up. I tried to the find the positive in all of it. Look at all the Iowa State and Nebraska fans posing as Iowa posters on this site that had to wait until January 1st to say "I told you so". Felt good for those guys. :)
Yeah, fairly easy to move on. Easy for me to say, I guess, since I didn't spend the money to go to Pasadena. But, for me, when McCaffrey blew away our defensive backfield for the TD on the first snap of the game, I relaxed and quit worrying. I thought, "We're gonna get stomped." I watched it all while I chewed on my wings, slurped my chili (great chili, by the way) and drank some brews. Sometimes it happens that way. You gotta roll with it.

Sure it wasn't Tom Osborne and Barry Switzer.... I've heard them say this on occasions... Except you only remember the Big Losses because those are the ones that you remember most.
I'm sure all the greats have said it because it is the truth.

It is like poker in many ways - everybody can tell you about their bad beats, but few remember it when they're on the other side.

I attended two games this past year. I saw Iowa go 0-2 in person.

The Rose Bowl was a consolation prize, Iowa had their hearts ripped out a month earlier. The BTCG was the biggest game in Iowa history and they came up just short, that game is the painful one.

I just tuned out the Spring stuff. I had a front row seat to that debacle. This one hit me harder than about any other game, including Bobby F'in Olive. Is that the life of an Iowa fan in a nutshell: Outclassed when it matters?

I couldn't get past the B1G Championship. Didn't go the the Rose Bowl. First game, home or away, in a long, long time I didn't attend.

Having said this, I don't like West Coast games, so the B1G Championship wasn't the only reason I didn't attend the rose Bowl, but it had a very large part of it.

Last season is over. I considered the B1G Championship the biggest time in Iowa football since I've attended Iowa games, but the next game is really the only game that matters, and that happens this September. .

Rose Bowl isn't nearly the big prize it used to be.

B1G title game loss was far worse.

Coming within inches of making the playoffs after that unbeaten run in the regular season was about as big a kick in the nads as it gets. I think it was the one shot they had to make the playoffs. I don't expect them to get that close again.

We finally have our scapegoat. Thanks Pepperman!!

I went and I'm glad I did. Win or lose it was great to be part of the experience. My only regret is that I passed on the Rose Parade. Next time...

I was at the Big 10 Championship game and the Rose Bowl. The loss to MSU was undoubtedly more painful, but I'd rather be at that game every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The ending of the Big 10 Championship was very similar to the ending in Friday Night Lights - even though they lost, there wasn't a single fan that wasn't proud as hell with their effort.

I have managed a peek or two at some video from the Rose Bowl. I can't do it for the BTT. The Rose Bowl stunk (the rest of the fam was a few minutes late getting to the watch party and we were already down 21-0) and is especially bad that it's the last memory of that team, and "proved" to the nation we didn't belong on the field with the elite. But it was no great shakes being there. I've been a sucker for the Rose Bowl but the days of it being the prize are long gone. The BCS killed that.

I wanted the playoffs. And we had MSU. To be out-efforted by some third string RB or whatever was just sickening. Every time Iowa rises up to be a threat, we have our lunch eaten by a big dog. Every time. I thought I learned my lesson after OSU '09, but nope, I went and had my hopes up again. That'll learn me.

The worst part about the way the season ended is it renders a 12-0 regular season utterly meaningless. We got nothing to show for all that effort. Just the memories of the ride while it lasted, I guess.

This was the 2nd year in a row the Hawks got blown out. Against Tenn. it looked like Iowa had less athletes and gave up. In the Rose Bowl it looked liked the Hawks enjoyed the festivities too much and didn't show up to play football. The Rose Bowl is harder to get over because I thought they would be ready to play after they got blown out by Tenn. the year before. I also thought Iowa had more to prove after being dissed all yr. and still going 12-0 in the regular season and almost beating MSU in the Big 10 championship game. Win your Bowl game and everyone is on an off season high, lose and question the coaching and players in getting ready for the big games.

2015 is a season I'll never forget, but it is ironic how it all went down:

12-0 got us no respect.

12-1 somehow changed everything and we had people apologizing and giving us tons of respect.

12-2 and we were right back to "no respect"...

The Tournament of Roses Parade made the whole trip worthwhile in spite of the disappointing outcome of the game. I waited 25 years to go and I'm not sorry I spent a lot of money to be there. I look forward to this season and hope the team can step it up for our tougher schedule. Beathard could have a monster season if he stays healthy and the offensive line develops so they can protect him. Only about five months to go.

Stanford showed up to win the Rose Bowl while Iowa was simply enjoying the trip. Stanford was all business and this was their 3rd Rose Bowl in as many years. Stanford was the better team by far.

The Hawks looked overmatched and underprepared. The first play out of the chute was a haymaker that the Hawks could never recover from.

I was there and my family had a great time. The Stanford fans were classy. Their Band was hilariously stupid. I enjoyed every second once I realized the game was over after the first quarter. It was special just being there, and the standing ovation we gave the players and coaches as they left the field was something I'll never forget being a part of.

My epiphany came when MSU got stomped by Bama. I just had a bad feeling. Almost bought into the narrative of Northwestern beating Stanford, almost. I kept telling people that was an early game for those California people and I got mocked.

Anyhow, us playing MSU close I thought meant we had a stout D. But then Bama just humiliated those guys and I started thinking..... Something doesn't feel right. Almost like the Tennessee game the year before, people on this board had me convinced that a 6-6 team didn't belong in that bowl.

Deja vu
