So as a little diversion from all the angry stuff, a fun little story about how secondary markets are awesome for studying economic behavior.
Alex Ovechkin has started the year hot. So last week I picked up a nosebleed seat for last week’s game against Toronto. A bargain at $25 (excluding fees).
So it got me thinking. I should see what tix might be available when ovi could catch the great one. At that point he was 32 goals away from Gretzky and he’d started out hot, averaging about 0.7 goals per game. At that rate he could catch him in like February. But I figured I should factor in recency bias and assume he’d come back to earth a bit. So at 0.5 gpg, that put me in a 3-game homestand in March. Awesome!!
So I go to the site. For each of the games, minimum ticket price is $50+.
After ovi scored tonight I checked again. Up to 60, 65, and 80
