I've just learned that, in Texas, it's not necessarily illegal to own different "great apes", including chimpanzees, but individual counties have their own restrictions. Alas, in my county: "It is illegal to keep any Great Ape for display, exhibition, or any other purpose." It seems my ape-rtunities are limited.
