A young, athletic team that will have to learn how to win as opposed to a senior-laden team that constantly chokes away every chance they get.

Probably won't get to 20 wins. Making the dance doubtful. But, agree that it could still be a fun season.
Lower expectations for sure next year.

+1. Might even see a low post dunk!
It's one thing to not be able to dunk, but you at least need to make the bunny lay up's when your hand is right next to the rim. Woody missed several big shots today in the clutch.

Iowa is ranked in the top 20. There is no way they don't get in the tournament. The seed is the thing in doubt as this loss won't help that. While this is extremely disappointing, being an Illinois fan this year, I would take your year versus ours. Remember that it is not uncommon that a team who plays the first day with a lower seed beats the higher seed that hasn't played. I would say you still have hope in the NCAA tournament, but the other late losses going into the tournament plus this one to Illinois could obviously be weighing on the team mentally.

Could be some changes we don't expect. Uhl doesn't look happy.
I'm not too happy about Uhl either. He's too stiff. People say he's athletic because he's got a great handle for a guy his size, but he seems to lack agility.

I will go on record right now and say next years team will lose some games. They will win a few that they shouldn't, but they will also lose some head scratchers as well.

Yeah I don't think he's actually good, I wouldn't be upset if he left. His three point shooting this year seems like a total fluke on one 9/11 stretch. He's a terrible free throw shooter, doesn't rebound as well as he should, is lazy on defense.

Watching today I started wondering if Iowa looks a bit like Illinois right now? 4 athletic guards that can attack and shoot with a stretch 4 in the post.

Hopefully with our incoming freshman we can actually have an inside scoring threat. While I agree that PG play is vitally important, Having no inside scoring presence is also a huge liability that this team has had, Hopefully it is an area of emphasis for next year.

At least Fran won't be able to keep running MG out there at the end of games only to fail over and over again....
seems like I'm watching the movie Ground Hog Day. Thankfully, the fiasco is about over. One more 1 and done.

Guards win college basketball. Ours are terrible and there doesn't seem to be anything coming down the pipeline after MG/AC are gone.

Did you see something specific in this game or just bad body language? I saw in the Michigan game when he got taken out that he gave Fran a look like "What do you want me to do coach?"

Just stuff over the course of the year, especially, whatever game it was, Uhl was taken out and fran said something to him, Uhl gave him a dirty look and said something back to him. Not good for moral and comradery.

Worst movie ever! And I've watched it about 20 times the last few years.

You may be right but at what point do we quit saying "Maybe next year will be better."

Iowa Basketball has been a tough follow for the last 55 years I will admit. I love the Hawkeyes and I've watched 100's and 100's and 100's of games, maybe more than a thousand, and it seldom has a great ending. The teams that have stood the test of time for me have been the 1969/1970 Hawkeyes with JJ and Freddie Brown, and Tom Davis first team w/ Raveling recruits...and the team that made the final 4 with Lester, Krafcisin, Waite etc. There have been some really good teams besides these 3 for sure (Sam Williams team that lost the run off game at OSU for the 1 NCAA bid at that time). But it has been an exercise in futility for most of the time. I am used to it, but I still have hope for another great run or 2 in the next 10 years. Maybe a highly improbable run to the Final Four this year? I guess you never know.

The three seniors Gesell, Clemmons and Woody were
never going to be offensive threats, Their averages were
below double figures for scoring this season. Gesell had
turnovers at crucial times despite his great assist record.
Woody could rebound but was also turnover prone.
Clemmons could play defense but was not a real scoring
threat.

Iowa will be 3-4 games under .500 next year bud.. And you better not bitch when it happens

If Uhl and Ellingson leave I don't think too many fans would be upset. I like Uhl's upside, but he has an akward shot and the only reason it was falling early in the year was because he was WIDE OPEN. Now teams are on him and its a struggle.
