ice fishing

As to the question, haven't been out yet this year. I largely stick to our pond for ice fishing, and up until the last week with the aerator running and various winds there was a good chunk of open water. Oldest was there a few days ago and it looks like most of it is good to go now, so maybe this weekend.

Liked only because accurate. What I'd heard is he was out in extremely foggy conditions with an ATV and got turned around and too close to the aerator. Sad.
I’ve got several friends up there…hadn’t heard the part about the atv but the rest is what I was told. Sounds like he had a lot of experience fishing there which makes it worse IMO. The ice on the Ventura side by the marsh can be sketchy too. Thought we were gonna drop our four wheeler thru the ice a few years ago.

Son has been out 3 times in the last 4 weeks in Spring Lake north of Prairie Duchien Wi. Tip ups with minnow 8 16-20" northern2 at 35". Saturday with 4 others on Lovers Lane west of Horseshoe 50 total in Gills. Dd some sorting. Lots of Iowa and Wisky guys in the cut just west of the parking lot between the bridges. I believe the DNR dredged it and a pool east of it this summer.
Ice is 8"-10" since the really cold temps.

Headed out this weekend in central Iowa. Spent last week at Lake of the Woods. It was rather on fire. Hopefully the panfish in Iowa cooperate the same. Any livescope users on here?

My profession doesn't allow me to go ice fishing but when I retire I can see myself getting into it.

I've gone three times in my life and haven't caught a damn thing.

I'm sure it's fun as long as you have the proper equipment.

Like booze and weed. Ice fishing can either be blast or suck major ass. I won’t ice fish without party favors.

My son and his family just returned from spending the week after Christmas in Detroit Lakes MN and my grandson (9 next month) is just taken with the whole thing. Moving an ice house onto frozen water, drilling a hole and catching a fish is just the coolest thing ever.
Pretty elaborate ice house by the way.
I’m just glad they’re back home safe in our balmy 52 degree daytime highs. 🥶

Yeah, I've got a livescope setup I use in conjunction with my Vexilar. Honestly, it's almost cheating.

I sold my vex when I got my livescope. I regret that. The target separation on the vexilar zoom is much better with walleyes hugging the bottom. Use in conjuction with the vex seems like the way to go. I have also noticed it is easier to hole hop with a vex once you have located the fish with the livescope.

I haven't ice fished CL for 4 or 5 years now. A couple times to Rice Lake and a few to West Twin over by Kanawha for perch. Mostly I have 9 acres of "lake" that nobody else is on and the fish are MINE haha.

This is what I do. Drill several holes in a target area, put the livescope on the edge to scan and then take the Vex to the hole I'm fishing.

Curious where you went out of at Lake of the Woods and were you on Walleye, or go for something else up there? Had been going up once or twice a winter with a group of buddies; but we sold our sleeper this year and debating if going. Before we had the sleeper, we would stay at Wigwam and do a package where they bring you out and pick you up in a bomber.

Go to the angle. If you can’t do that go west. Stay out of the Baudette resort area. The fishing pressure there is insane.

We went out of Warroad but a local resort will ruin our area by this weekend. It is all about perfect conditions and getting away from traffic up there
