Icing on the cake...

Doesn't seem all that unreasonable anymore. He's buddies with Spencer Lee, Gavin Teasdale, and Jacob Warner. Not to mention he would fill in perfectly for Stoll, after a redshirt year. I thought I remembered seeing a top 5 list of his schools somewhere before and Iowa was not on it, however as we know things are never set in stone in recruiting. Even the top 5 schools of Berge and Warner have changed throughout the process from early in the summer to this fall when they committed. It'll be interesting to see how the whole Gable situation plays out. My hopes aren't up, but just letting it play out.

Gable would be much more than the icing. I think he'd be a bigger recruit than Spencer. At minimum they're even level recruits.

Next for 2018
25 solid with Lee, Wagner, Stickley.
33 solid with Teasdale, Murin, Rathbun.
41 solid with Turk, Happel, Murin.

49 NEED. Ryan or Glosser could take over for BS also Happel or Turk could move up. Who knows maybe Troy could make the weight for a couple of years or Kemerer might come back down. We have options just would like them add a true 49 maybe Will Lewan IL.

57 solid with Kemerer, Troy, Malcom, and most likely Brands coming in.
65 solid with Marinelli, St John, Gunther, Moody
74 solid with Young and Wilson.

84 NEED Wilcke will be good here and Bowman will back him up but need to add someone. Jack Jensen IL or Jared Krattiger WI would be nice.

97 solid with Warner and Holloway.

285 NEED Costello will be solid but need to add someone here. The prize would be Gable and I think he will take a visit to Iowa or Colton Shultz for 2019.

Brands better have his game on to out compete Cael for Gable.

PSU probably has a shoe-in with the "little" Nevillis - the #2 HWT after Gable. Does PSU recruit over Seth and try and get Gable when Seth already has 2 brothers on the team????

**Yes, he's done it before recruiting over Haines to get Nick Nevillis... but the family connection makes this different.

Seth might play football, Cael might encourage that to have free range at Gable and not upset the family.

According to Rivals - 2 star recruit

Looks like wrestling in his future to me... unless the kid just loves football
A lot of people do. Football is a ton easier than wrestling, plus you can still dream of going pro some day.

Regardless of what Nevills decides to do, Cael will be all in on Gable. Nevills would be a nice consolation prize.

Don't quote me on this as I have not researched it yet, but I heard yesterday that Jessen was heading to Stanford. This is the first time I've gotten any information on anyone from this particular source so I am not sure how credible it is.

While Gable is a stud and a top level recruit, I have to respectfully disagree with you on this.
Care to elaborate? The guy is a 2 time world champion going into his junior year. Plus he's at a weight where it is much harder to find legitimate studs. Whereas with Spencer, there is a legitimate case that he is not the best 125lber in his own class (Fix), not to mention a guy like Suriano one year older than him.

Not a knock on Spencer, just saying there is much more recruiting depth at the light weights. There is no one close to Gable's level at heavy.

I'd be interested to hear why you think he's, at a minimum, not an equal level recruit as Spencer.

For the same reason you just used. Lot of open podium spots for guys who may not have the high school age level accolades that GS has who will be coming in for a lot less money. How many heavyweights in the last 10-15 years have been guys who will bonus at a 75%+ clip for their CAREER? If we don't get him, we can get someone else who can be developed into a high AA with how barren that weight will be during that time frame.

One thing to remember here is that as of now Kem is a 49lber. It will be interesting to see if he drops down after Sorensen graduates. Malcolm is very good at 57. Unless Kem moves down He wouldn't start until he was a senior. It wouldn't be realistic for Matt to go 49 either. Malcom has improved a ton in the last year. He won Grandview and I think we'll see him a few more opens this year. He would have been a high place winner at Fargo but he couldn't attend because of an illness.

You make an interesting point about bonus points, but I think Gable is on Mocco's level. He put up a lot of bonus points in his career. Including a Hodge trophy.

I think you could make the same point about Lee and Mejia in terms of getting a lesser guy to AA status. Could we have not gone after Lee and instead went with Mejia and made him a multiple high AA? Sure could have. But we went with the guy that's going to win multiple titles.

This alone may put us in the group ! We can only hope.

I tend to agree. Gable would be a feather in any recruiting class, but I just don't see him bowling over the competition like Spencer should. It isn't just about placing top 3 anymore at nationals. It's placing top 3 and getting four or more bonus points. Spencer will give you that. Can Gable do better? I tend to think not.

I've never read or heard anything from him stating Iowa is in the picture. Do you care to share why you think this?
HIWILLE is more connected than me, but I'm going to go ahead and say that we are in the picture. The only little birdie I know, told me that the coaches are after him hard. This is coming from the guy that told you all we had absolutely zero chance a few months ago. I will happily eat my crow if we manage to land him.

Spencer has been nothing short of legendary in his HS career. Him coming to Iowa was a boost, and likely influenced other recruits.

I have high hopes for him, but at the same time, hope his shoulder has completely healed and causes no future problems. Also, he needs to grow a bit. I expect a terrific career for him at Iowa, but it's premature, imho, to be assuming he'll be a multi-time national champ.

His comments indicate he's outgrown 149. Not that he "can't" make 149 but as time goes by that becomes less likely, IMHO.
I hope that is the case. I want full bodied guys at the weight they are competing at. Winning in DI is difficult if you're a MAN at your weight, it's exponentially harder if you're undersized.

shoulder looked fine on his way to a third world title. He has two years to grow. It will happen and the titles will also.

I agree with you that it's less likely. If he gets his teeth kicked in by Nolf the next 2 years it has to be something to consider though(if he can make it). 49-Kem NC 57-Malcom Aa sounds better than a hole at 49 and a 2nd or 3rd at 57.

I know it's best for PSU and their long term plans if Nolf is a career 157 with Joseph at 165, but there was lots of talk earlier on that he would outgrow 157. That talk has cooled certainly but he may also go the Imar route and be forced to go up if his body doesn't allow him to stay 157 for 2 more years.
