If Clark wins tonight, it will be an almost super human accomplishment.

I asked in another thread: where does this rank amongst the greatest tournament performances ever by a Hawk? Gotta be near the top.
Right up there with these:
Gibson's HR when he could barely walk.

MJ 'flu game' scores 38 points.

This cuts it a super human effort. Couldn't be happier for Clark. I said all along he would have gone unbeaten save for the major injuries.

Okay, just looked it up. Sorry, I don't know a ton about early Hawkeyes history. Jess Whitmers story seems like a great one. Underdog his whole career, and finally gets the championship at the end. That's awesome, and I really wish I was old enough to be there and remember it. But, after hearing a little about his story, I don't think his tournament was that much more impressive then Clarks if at all. Being doubted his whole career and finally wrestling as a redshirt senior and upsetting the #2, #3, and #5 seed on the way to a tile is very impressive. But, I think what Clark did was just as impressive in his own way. Clark, with a severely damaged left shoulder and wrist beat the #1, #2, and #5 seed on his way to the NCAA championship. While also avenging a B10 finals loss, and delivering Iowa their only champ on the night (over a former teammate as well). Jesse Whitmer is the ultimate underdog story and had a great run to the finals. But IMO, Cory's road to the title in probably the second hardest weight class is more impressive, but that's just me.

That was Crash Davis (*Jake Taylor) busted up knees, game winning single type of stuff!

(FYI, thats a Major League reference as a segue to Cleveland next year!)

To each their own Wduck, I put these forward

1. records Cory 20-3 Jess 19-6
2. Big10 Cory 2nd Jess 4th
3 seeds Cory 4th Jess 6th
4. Seeds beaten Cory 1,2&5 Jess 2,3&5
5 AAs beaten. Cory 1(3rd) Jess 2(3rd&5th)

Cory was a much better wrestler then Jesse ever was. They both showed extreme mental discipline and toughness their 5th years. Cory with his injuries and senior year expectations. Cory being a 3 time AA vs a 1st timer at nationals cannot be understated.

Jess w sitting 4 years behind Mena, staying at Iowa and pressure from Gables last dance.

I'm happy for both. I have follow Clarks career more then Jesse, as todays info is easily available.

I wish more guys would take the route of Whitmer vs looking for glory at a D3 or Juco schools.

The Whitmer story was great because of his perseverence and staying the course. When it was his turn, he grabbed ahold of the opportunity and made a dream come true.

Clark made the dream come true by battling adversity with injuries. Personally rate the Clark saga more impressive due to physical limitations; yet staying within his game plan and wrestling his style which brought home a NC.

I still love the Whitmer story, but battling through injuries was an amazing run.

A lot of wrong in this post.

Oops! Was picturing Jake Taylor running down the first base line, definitely got my catchers mixed up! I think I'll watch Bull Durham and Major League to refresh my memory!

I'll blame it on a long weekend in St. Louis and a long travel day home!

Go Clark and Go Hawks!
