You can’t say that. We lost to 2 downright terrible teams this year, Michigan St and UCLA. If we had to go West to play at AZ St we know how well the Hawks do out there. And we already lost at home to Iowa St.
I think it's a safe bet we'd be in the top 3 for sure. We did lose to some bad teams this year but I like our odds against an entire conference full of pedestrian teams.
I mean let’s be real here. Last night left us feeling great because we beat a rival. However, statistically we did something that hasn’t been done in 23 years, which is win a game with 5 1st downs. When your offense is as bad as our is every week is an adventure.
Don’t think 8-4 would get us there. We’re most definitely an 8-4 type of team this year

Sounds like someone is just envious of the position Iowa St put themselves in. Iowa lost to two really crappy teams this season. Chances are they’d find a way to lose 3 games with a typical Big 12 schedule. There are a few teams in that conference that we’d beat easily but not many. 7-win Minnesota was by far our best win this season.
Iowa State lost at home to an average Big 12 team as well. They’ll get a single team and most years they’ll be on the road and getting destroyed (like how this season will go)

Indiana will brag about being a 2024 Playoff participant. So will Boise St and anybody else. It will be what defines program success.
No, the O would have to do better. Nebby and UCLA aren't defensive juggernauts.
If Iowa beats Michigan State and UCLA you are in some kind of tiebreaker for the big 10 champ game, are 8-1 in one of the premier conferences, and are possibly in the playoff.
The same team that lost to those teams lost to ISU and had an * win against Nebby. Lots of iffies.

As they should. With every year that passes, every game outside of the playoff 12 means less and less.
This was our year to make it in, and we blew it. Gonna need another 4-5 years for our new Lines to develop and the hope of making a run at the final 12 to return to a reality.
Oregon won your league. Seems I remember ISU doubling the score on them in 2021.

No, they didn't play a tougher schedule and if you believe that, you're a fool. Nothing I say to a fool will convince them otherwise so enjoy your perceived win.
BTW, grats on getting to your "conference" championship. Who knew, all it would take was every good team leaving for you to end the drought. Maybe you guys will get to play 2021 Oregon in the bowl game after you lose to ASU so that other poster can prove whatever point he/she was trying to make.
I hope you win though. You certainly shouldn't want to play the current iteration of Oregon this year but I'd ABSOLUTELY love to watch that game. Please let that happen. Talk about doubling up the score. Hell, tripling up...

Did you watch the MichSt game and even Nebby or all season long. A Hawk making fun of another team's tackling and defense is like a Hawk making fun of another team's quarterback.

I wouldn't debate strength of top teams in the conference in football comparing Big 12 to SEC or Big 10 this year, not that Iowa state is on the same level with Texas this year. I would say that if your point in bold above is that ISU wasn't competitive with those teams leaving the Big 12, that is a different argument. The last five years ISU won 3 of 5 against Texas, and lost one by 3 and the other by 10. Oklahoma they won 1 of the last 5 and were only "boat raced" in one of those (last year). ISU did play in the Big 12 Conference championship while those two teams were both still in the Big 12, and ISU actually had the best conference record in the regular season that year, but championship is determined by the title game. Equal to them? No. Competitive is more arguable. But this is a fan site so all is arguable.
Look, I'm not upset you guys are doing well at all. Go do your thing! You've earned the right to play in your conference championship. I do still believe that you all are a still only a decent team and that's all there is to it. So what? That's all it takes for the B12 much like the B1G West. A decent team.
My gripe is with people trying to make the B12 sound better than it is. Using false stats from subjective areas to back up their belief. It's not and that's okay. It's B1G West bad but without an above average team on occasion to represent it, so, it's technically worse but twice the size. I think, collectively, the best teams in the B12 are decent at best and that none of them are truly deserving of being called top 20 teams. I don't think anybody from your conference can get close to beating anyone of upper tier significance just like I don't think Iowa can either this year.
Being competitive with Texas the last five years is much akin to us beating Nebraska in a roundabout way. They weren't what their prestige built them up to be in the past. This year, I'm pretty sure Texas would've wrecked your conference harshly and Oklahoma would maybe have two losses total at worst.
FYI, I was never under any false notion that the B1G West was anything to brag about either and I see the similarities. The difference for me was that the winner from the West had to ultimately play a team that was always typically legitimate and that point was proven with the West always losing. There is no safety net for the B12 so we're all forced to watch an ass beating of any team that should win it because they're all so average. It won't be pretty. Just like I sure as hell don't think Boise St. should be in either. I think the ACC teams are in better standing but it's mostly based on past history and they're aren't really any good honestly.
I realize none of this is the B12s nor ISUs fault. They didn't want this situation and this argument would be put to bed if Texas, Oklahoma, A-M, Nebraska, and even maybe Mizzou were still in the conference. I honestly feel bad trying to remind you all what your reality actually is so repeatedly but the realist in me can't stop regardless. I wouldn't question the legitimacy of the winner as much, if at all, had they beaten those safeguards I mentioned above but they don't exist anymore unfortunately.
It will be like this every year going forward for your conference brethren because the conference is that bad collectively. Again, not your fault. You defending your position within that conference isn't going to change the countries mindset on the matter. Stop defending what's obvious to everyone outside of the B12. We learned that lesson the hard way in the Big Ten West when we always got out asses kicked. The B1G learned that by getting it's ass kicked most years by the SEC over the last 25 years too. That will be the result for whomever wins the B12. It's not going to be pretty but hey, do your thing. Win it all. At least you guys have a chance to get in the playoffs over the next five years whereas we're going to have a difficult road getting in perpetually.
Again, not against ISU or any team in the B12. I'm just calling a spade a spade and if I'm wrong, well, it wouldn't be the first time...also, I doubt I am but it's up to you all in the B12 to prove it so I think my money is safe.
Reasoned response. I didn't come to this board to defend ISU. I am here regularly as I have kids that went to both universities (My son is graduating from Iowa this semester) and my one daughter played on the club soccer team at Iowa. I did my undergrad and grad work at ISU thus my moniker.

So the last 7 games we played basically the Big Ten West, and nobody w/a winning record. We missed Oregon and Penn St and IU and only had to play 1 of the top 4 teams. Not exactly murderer's row of a schedule. 2 teams w/winning records and an FCS team s/a winning record.
The possible b12 champ and intrastate rival, hard fact? ISU gives us fits every year, even when they suck. We own them but they always compete.
Dude, most teams don't face a murderer's row. I see 4 winning records and two 6-6 teams that could still get to a winning season.
