If Michigan beats Northwestern, does that help Iowa in the standings?

A loss to Michigan and victory over Iowa means that they must still go undefeated in the West to beat a 7-1 Hawk team to the CCG. A win over Michigan AND Iowa pretty much ends it, even if they drop an outlier. If you quit planning our playoff strategy with highly improbable 'both teams 11-1' comparisons, this would make more sense.

Most of the time, people don't need to have it explained that it's advantageous when a serious division rival loses a game.

If Iowa skids in backwards to the CCG and loses by 80, the only important part remembered will be that Iowa played in a CCG.

Just like the fact that Nebraska was gifted a shot in the mythical national title game (more than once) as well as the CCG in the B10. That's all their fans will remember in 20 years. They were there. In fact, they've made a life out of living on that.

NW loss certainly helps us in the B1G standings, but if they win it helps us in national rankings/ perception if we beat them.

And you don't even want to acknowledge that we are playing first for a division title? The benefits of them losing to Michigan are huge, putting us in a position to virtually eliminate them when we play them vs. them virtually eliminating us from the division race. There is no reason to desire the 'all or nothing' situation as it provides few advantages.

Do we not want to go to a CCG game? It's not easy to get there no matter how invincible we feel right now. This is a particularly good year to get there since something weird seems to be going on with MSU and OSU.

Help me out here. If Iowa goes 12-0, will they not be representing the West in the CCG? How does Michigan defeating NW help that?

The difference is you are planning on Iowa losing a game or more. So you are looking for "help" in order to make it to the CCG. There is not a team on the schedule that Iowa shouldn't beat.

Now, if Iowa should lose a game...then I will look at who should beat who. As for now...every team left on the schedule you want to have the absolute best record they can have. Ideally NW is undefeated, and when the CCG comes around you want either OSU or MSU there to be unblemished as well.

But that is OK...you can keep planning on the Hawks losing. I will keep planning on them winning.

Right now, Iowa needs no help to win the West. They just need to win the games they play.

Until that fact changes, and it likely will, I will almost always want a victory by a West team. Every year fans chastise weak conferences or divisions. I would rather have Iowa play in what is perceived as the best division in college football than the weakest. That means having teams in the West win.

I know I may be alone, but I would rather finish second in the toughest conference than first in the weakest. Go Cats.

I'd rather win a tiebreaker and have them go to a CCG than lose a tiebreaker. A tiebreaker is a lot more likely than a 12-0 record by the end of the B1G season. NW is also the likeliest loss in our remaining schedule but Indiana and Purdue gave hellacious fights to the number 1 and 2 team in the country.

People talk about Nebraska fans being unrealistic but here we have some Hawk fans outraged that I think we're going to lose A conference game in the next 7. Let's hope it isn't this one.

That all said, some of you guys are silly as hell.
