If North Carolina can fire Mack Brown

Iowa fans on here always criticized Nebraska for firing Solich.

And now some want to fire KF who is on a Solich type of run regarding season records.

Not going to happen unless the program starts losing a lot more than they have the past 5-6 years.

I could potentially see KF retiring at the end of next year if he has secured the Big Ten wins record.

I could also see him coaching through his current contract.

But fired? I wouldn’t hold your breath.

IMO Iowa cannot afford to fire Ferentz and won't. Us that are really tired of the Ferentz BS can only hope he retires.
I would assume all the fans that insist you cannot be a fan or criticize the team if you do not donate to SWARM are putting together the buyout right now out of their own pockets.

i don't want him fired, but i do want him to leave. there's a difference.
Kirk has had great defensive and special teams staff in place for a long time. He might finally have something in place on the offensive side. Aside from KJ and an oline that has grandkids already, Lester came in with very little to work with and the offense has performed much better under his guidance. It's probably worth noting that the only 2 QB's that look to be worth anything were brought in by him at the last minute. Let's see what he can do with a few years to fix what the Ferentz's broke. We all might be pleasantly surprised.

I'm actually more optimistic then most about next season. I think on offense we'll be better at the skill positions, QB, WR and even TE, ( Lachey and O have been out a lot, and we have TE's). We'll be fine at RB. With Stephens, Dunker, Elsbury, Myslinski, Pieper, we have a good core ad I think some young talent coming up. We'll have all conf worthy kicker, and punter. We'll lose a bunch on D, but I think the pieces are there. Hope Graves returns. Might see Allen move inside some. Max LL is a beast. Lots of young DE's. The DB's will be more seasoned. Might see Lutmer or Nestor at the cash, (a more natural position for him. ). We'll lose all of the LB's, but like Hitchens, Harrell has had three years to learn his craft at the Mike LB. I could see the defense surprise next season as well even with all the graduations.

The problem is that if you fire KF, you’re also likely losing his asst coaches who, on the whole, are very very good

KF seems more comfortable delegating now to Parker, Lester, and Woods than earlier this season. I’d like to see another couple years of “hands-off” KF to see how that works, as opposed to a new coach who is likely not going to retain KF’s assistants

Yeah. Losing KJ is gonna hurt, but nobody else of real note and giving Lester a full year should pay dividends. Defense is a different story and I'd expect a step back with the loss of pretty much everyone. Iowa struggles without a dominant defense so next year could be really challenging in lieu of significant progress on the offensive side of the ball.

Then Iowa can fire Kirk Ferentz if need be.
If you're this dumb.... you're really dumb.

Pathetic comparison.

Mack Brown's best year in his 6-year tenure is 9-5. He's 6-5 this year, and he also had a losing, 6-7 season in 2021.

Kirk Ferentz best year during Mack Brown's tenure is 10-3 in 2019, But he's also gone 10-4 in 2021, and 10-4 in 2023.

Also, in 2020, Brown played 12 games while Iowa only played 8 games.

Ferentz has 51 wins and 3 bowl wins compared to Brown's 44 wins and 1 bowl win.

Ferentz has finished the season ranked in both the AP and Coaches top 25 4 times during Brown's tenure while Brown has only done that once time, his 2nd year, in 2020.
Mack Brown has lost 4 straight bowl games too.

You're dumb. Very dumb.

Iowa can go to the portal and pick up some help on defense. Nick Jackson is proof. The returning players will be better. We see that ever year under Parker. One example, Campbell leaves, Higgins takes over. These stories happen often on defense.
Thats what I was thinking with Harrell who has been in that back up Mike spot behind Jay Hig the last two seasons. I THINK we can get a couple of key defensive players in the portal, BUT I'd caution fans about expecting huge portal help for next year. With this new 105 scholarship limit which starts next season we do get 20 more scholarships but lose ALL the walk ons we normally groom. So in essence we will go from a roster of about 120-125 to a total roster of 105 total. Given the graduations and portal losses, (3 or 4 already) and then taking in 14 high school commits we'll have to cut about 20 or so players at least to take in any portal players. I could see a handful of key guys, but there won't be a bunch unless we have a bunch of guys hit the portal after the season. I would not expect that ALL the cuts will be current walk ons. There are some guys on specials, snappers, and back up kickers who are walk ons. Some of those guys will get scholarships. There are some guys brought in as PWO's that we are very high on. Kirk said in Tuesdays presser that the staff would start looking at just how they were going to manage that next week, after the black Friday game. Some of those walk ons may very well get offers. It will be really interesting to see how this works out, not to mention if any of the guys they were bringing in as PWO's for next year get scholarships now or are cut loose.

Mack Brown won a title at TEXAS.

He hasn't won a single ACC title..Not even shared despite pulling in decent recruiting classes. Kirk Ferentz had a really good first half of a decade. He's pulled off a few odd double digit wins and keeps Iowa respectable. That's good enough to enough people.

KF is not getting fired nor should he. He might win 9 games this year and can stay until he feels he is done imo
Again, this is an utterly ridiculous proposition.

The notion that Kirk is employed until he - and he alone - “feels he is done” is plainly ludicrous. Under this scenario, KF could coach at Iowa until he is 80 (regardless of the state of the program) and the Iowa AD would have no other choice but to extend his employment contract thru 2035 …. or longer if he (Kirk Ferentz) feels he is not done yet. Mindless bullshit at it’s finest.

KF made this work. Schedule light. He will retire after next year or next. Those 2-10 seasons will do that to a old coach.
You really are a ridiculous troll. The coach only gets to schedule THREE games. The league schedules the rest. He hasn't been anywhere close to 2-10 in 24 years and he won't be again before he retires...

I would imagine he meant until his contract is up in 2029. You know, the one that he AND the University signed? I highly doubt BG is going to resign him even IF he decides to stay that long, which I have my doubts. Cutting 20 extra players this offseason from the walk on program is going to kill the guy, because believe it or not he cares deeply about those players. ALL of them....

I get that people are bored with KF. I'm ready for a change as well.

But right now, Iowa is 5-3 in the B1G. There are only 4 teams ahead of Iowa in the B1G standings, and they may all make the CFP.

There are 12 B1G teams behind them. 8 of them have only 3 B1G wins. I don't think they will all fire their HC.

You don't fire any coach with KF's record the last few years. And you certainly don't fire KF.

He will have to retire by 2026 or be contract extended beyond 2029.. No decent high school recruit will commit to a lame duck coach. Extending 72yo KF additional years is something Barta would do. Goetz isn’t that stupid.

What is an average Iowa fan's expectations? Someone brought up Solich, but that's a different thing. He didn't make the program better than it had been for the preceding 30 years.

Yes you are correct but I am also assuming he isn't going 1-11 anytime soon either.

Is this even true? When coaches and players can move around at will, does it matter?

We don't want decent recruits. We want exceptional recruits.

Who do you replace Kirk with to keep the 8-10 win seasons going? No one wants the Debbie debacle here.
