what do think would happen if Iowa passes that much against OSU?

If they go totally off script and try to win with Staley’s arm and Fant, Easley, Vandy...

Would it open up the running game or would we simply fall on our face against the OSU defensive backs?

With zero ability (thanks to our punters) to flip the field, I don't see Iowa going pass crazy. In anycase we are choosing between a 31-10 loss and a 56-14 Huskeresque loss. Yeah i'm a bit bummed about what iowa is showing on the field after the promise shown against isu and psu.

as i think about it even with crappy offensive production, with a punter like Coluzzi chances are that iowa would be undefeated.

It would give OSU far too many possessions.

So moving the ball by passing and, maybe, scoring some points is bad strategy when the alternative is not moving the ball, not scoring, and punting a lot? I can't see how an afternoon of 3-and-outs capped by 30-yard punts is a formula for avoiding a blowout. I must be missing something.

But if it were me, I'd use the same script Iowa used on the first series against Minnesota all day long. Throw it, throw it, and throw it again. Most QB's complete at least 50% of their passes. If you throw 3 times and you only complete one...33%...for at least 10 yards, they let you keep the ball. I kinda like those odds.

Of course, running Wadley to the short side into the teeth of the defense could work. It worked once before, I think, and surely the Buckeyes won't be expecting it.

Pardon the expert analysis here ... Why the hell not???

Our run offense has basically hit the Sam Brownlee Critical Level. Stanley is starting to show some special ability. Split Wadley out sometimes like Quinn suggested. And our receivers don't always bat the ball away to a DB.

If we (Ohio State) had our usual NFL-ready secondary, throwing 40 passes against us would be disaster, since not many of them would accomplish much, and since a significant number of those passes would likely be intercepted. However, our secondary today, while far from awful, is not up to our usual standard, so throwing 40 passes might not be an irrational thing to do. In fact, if you watched what we did against Saquon Barkley this past Saturday, it might be the ONLY rational thing to do.

Sprinkle in some runs. No dropped passes. I think it is our only chance. But do it from the start of the game. Pass to set up the run. We just cannot keep trying to run it down teams throats....especially a team like OSU. Throw deep!!!

They would lose. Same as if they try the approach they've used multiple times this year by attempting to smash a 190lb. scat back into a stacked box.

I'd like to see something in the way of passing game first to set up the run; I just don't see it making any difference in this game. But, they're going to try something on offense so it might as well be the pass first, run second. Maybe it will pay off for the rest of the year if they have some success passing.

Confidence at the start of your game will go a long way in deciding the outcome. You guys are traditionally built not to ever get blow out.You get away from that and throw a pic 6 on the opening drive and it's lights out.

Honestly...it would be glorious if they did come out and air it out, even if it don't work. At some point, Kirk's gonna have to trust in doing stuff to break tendencies for Iowa to get better at it.

I thought Iowa crawled back into the shell Saturday cause they could and get away with it. They won't be able to this coming Saturday. And from what I saw of the PSU/OSU game, going conservative didn't exactly work out well for PSU.

Air it out, Brian. Power sets, use those two TE's more than you ever have this year. I seem to recall also (was it 2013?) when Iowa played OSU at their place, Iowa had a lot of success using 2 and 3 TE sets against them.

I know coaches never “assume” they are going to lose, but if they go by the thought “Hey, we aren’t supposed to win anyway, what the heck, let’s just throw caution to the wind, have some fun, and see what happens.”, it could turn into a competitive game. The fans would probably enjoy it, and so would the players.

Stanley will be pounded and probably get injured and lost for the year. Ohio State's D line is full of potential pro's, not a good idea..

They better be 40 pretty quick passes or OSU will set a record for # of sacks. That DLine is the real McCoy. We need our OLine to play big boy football and win more battles than they lose.

Last week was the first time I felt we were semi legit in the run game. Stanley would go like 24 out of 40 passing.... And 2 to 3 tds and a pick.... Now, could we win then? Pry not... Osu scores fast, so, some running game is a must... Some...

I really liked the play calling last week... I'm not worried, we will be ready to rock and roll.... With those unis? Look the heck out man!

Ohio State's strength of their team BY FAR is their defensive line, it's probably the best in the country, so being one dimensional on offense like some are calling for here and letting them pin their ears back and attack the QB every play would almost assuredly end very, very badly.

Given how Iowa has been catching passes this year I doubt they get 40 plays all game, much less a chance to have 40 pass plays.
