Maybe you shouldn’t settle for being an Iowa fan either…Why in the world would he "settle" for Iowa with his stock so high right now?

Who are the 5 star players Drake bought?According to the facts NIL gets the players.
Since I never said Drake had 5 star players you need to tell me who they are?Who are the 5 star players Drake bought?
Iowa won't get BM. He isn't #1 candidate, that's to come.
Holy shit some of you are annoying. Why in the world would he "settle" for Iowa with his stock so high right now?
Iowa > your teamIf they hold on to beat Missouri tonight you can forget about Iowa being able to come up with the money needed to hire him. There will be teams with some deep NIL pockets coming after him.
Yup, run along rico, and go be a fan of a school with deep pockets and big NIL coffers...Maybe you shouldn’t settle for being an Iowa fan either…
You are losing this argument.Since I never said Drake had 5 star players you need to tell me who they are?
However if you think you can compete consistently with D2 players in the B1G you're an idiot.
You could hire Norman Dale to coach and without a substantial NIL boost we're still 18th out of 18th in BIG in NIL. This isn't 1950 and money gets the talent. You are losing this argument.
NIL is important. For sure. But it isn’t the be-all end-all you think it is. There is only so much NIL money out there. There are only so many roster spots. Iowa will not have the NIL money to spend millions on players. Most teams don’t. And not all teams need to.
There are PLENTY of players out there that can be had without paying them millions of dollars. If you think McCollum will only be interested if he can buy a team of players who only want to play for the highest bidder….then you have done no research on the man whatsoever.
McCollum has proven he can coach, and he can compete with players who are not being paid millions of dollars. I can say with confidence he would rather have a team of hard working, smart, coachable players, than a team of guys who only care about the money.
I also think you try to sell McCollum — or any other coach we might pursue — that while Iowa’s NIL support for MBB might be low right now, it has the potential to be much better. You assure the coach that the pieces are finally in place to grow NIL, that he is one of those pieces, and that he will have the support (and patience) of the administration as it develops. You are losing this argument.

And yet…..somehow McCollum is able to do it.You could hire Norman Dale to coach and without a substantial NIL boost we're still 18th out of 18th in BIG in NIL. This isn't 1950 and money gets the talent.
He's a very good coach but he isn't coaching and winning in the B1G on a consistent basis with his current roster at Drake. And yet…..somehow McCollum is able to do it.
You still don’t get it, and I doubt you ever will. I’m done arguing with you.

JFC no one has ever said that so stop being stupid. He would not be recruiting players to Iowa that would otherwise go to division II schools. Recruiting rankings likely wouldn’t be near the top of the Big Ten but it never is for Iowa. However, Iowa does have a history of competing in the Big Ten with the right coach who can get the most out of his players, and all indications are that BMac can be that guy. Why is that so hard to understand? He's a very good coach but he isn't coaching and winning in the B1G on a consistent basis with his current roster at Drake.
He just doesn’t get it, and never will.JFC no one has ever said that so stop being stupid. He would not be recruiting players to Iowa that would otherwise go to division II schools. NIL and the portal is an inexact science. Indiana $5M, no tourney. Missouri 5 transfers from the portal for $4M, why did they let Tonje go? Coaching is key, can they blend players to play together? Mays at Michigan did, McCollum at Drake did. With all the players in the portal, Iowa will be a significant rebuild. Several may stay, who knows. Two way street, coach and player must evaluate if it is a good fit.teams with some deep NIL pockets

Who ever comes to Iowa as our new coach, I hope he teaches in-your-face defense, solid rebounding and disciplined offense.
aka he has no clue right now just making shit up like everybody with with inside sourceI will be happy to answer that after the season is over
Iowa won't get BM. He isn't #1 candidate, that's to come.
They may not get him, but if he’s not the #1 “candidate” then we hired the wrong AD. If he’s no longer the #1 candidate because be already declined, then do be it.Iowa won't get BM. He isn't #1 candidate, that's to come.
I know it’s popular right now to dog on Rico but if you’re objective in this he’s not wrong.#1 An Iowa "guy"
#2 Easy to improve this program.....not that he is looking for easy....just a bunch of white space
#3 He has the opportunity to bring Iowa Basketball WAY back, fill seats, loud arena....if so the money will be there for players and him.
I hope we get him.
Rico is mad. He doesn't actually want Iowa to succeed.JFC no one has ever said that so stop being stupid. He would not be recruiting players to Iowa that would otherwise go to division II schools. 1. How do you not get it? Shall we name power 5 coaches who coach in their home state? We can start with the Big Ten if you'd likeI know it’s popular right now to dog on Rico but if you’re objective in this he’s not wrong.
1. I don’t get the “Iowa guy” argument. I was born and lived most of my life in Illinois but I’m a die hard Hawk fan. His formative years were in Storm Lake, for all we know he was a die hard Cyclone fan. Which from a “heart strings” perspective would obviously work against us.
2. I also think the “he’s not a guy to back away from a challenge and likely wants one!” argument is also ridiculous. It’s a challenge to win a natty no matter where you go. This guy wants to win at the highest level. I don’t know very many or any coach that chose one job purely because “they wanted a challenge “.
3. If he wants a vibrant fan base, Beth has a tough sell here too. CHA hasn’t been that in men’s basketball for decades. She can point to women’s basketball fans but…
4. Arguing that they’re the same fans they just need a reason to return is dangerous argument to make because we haven’t truly seen both programs simultaneously supported in 30+ years.
5. NIL support is the number two consideration for most coaches now. Their compensation is of course number 1 but if they know NIL is scarce their sustainability of their first consideration and future prospects is that much harder.
1. How many of those coaches had a previous tie to the school? Big difference.1. How do you not get it? Shall we name power 5 coaches who coach in their home state? We can start with the Big Ten if you'd like
2. Whoever made that argument to begin with is dumb, ill give you that lol
3. A tough sell? Engage the fans for the first time in 30 years and it will be quite easy.
4. See #3
5. See #4
I guess Iowa shouldn’t even try. Might as well just name Gatens head coach and call it good.1. How many of those coaches had a previous tie to the school? Big difference.
3-5. If you had to choose between an already engaged fanbase or hoping you can pull one out of a coma, which do you think is preferable?
They absolutely should try. I’m sure BG is trying her ass off. I just think it’s a tougher sell than many of you think. Doesn’t mean we can’t find a good coach but getting “the” guy is really tough. It wasn’t that long ago we thought we were a slam dunk for Devries lolI guess Iowa shouldn’t even try. Might as well just name Gatens head coach and call it good.
Hey just wanted to let you know that Rico is wrong, but it's admirable that you feel the need to defend his opinion on our situation.1. How many of those coaches had a previous tie to the school? Big difference.

The rest of the B1G is laughing at your statement.Hey just wanted to let you know that Rico is wrong, but it's admirable that you feel the need to defend his opinion on our situation.
You can take my word for it when I say that, regarding our situation in men's basketball, you don't need to worry about it.................how bout that? 🙂
I don’t feel the need to defend anyone. That’s my independent thought that aligns with his to an extent. I’m not even saying McCollum would never come here, it’s just a tough sell, objectively. If he does come here, all the credit in the world to BG. It would be an amazing hire!Hey just wanted to let you know that Rico is wrong, but it's admirable that you feel the need to defend his opinion on our situation.

3. Have you seen women’s basketball and wrestling? Give the fans something to cheer about and you’ll have unwavering support. McCollum will do exactly that. Infact, with his hire alone im guessing there’ll be an enormous spike in ticket salesI know it’s popular right now to dog on Rico but if you’re objective in this he’s not wrong.
