The more I listen to McCollum……

I like some of these older uniforms, and I am definitely a fan of keeping things simple. Glad to hear BMc feels the same.

If the uniforms say "Iowa," I would expect them to stick with the branded typeface we have been using across all sports for the past few years. The exception would be the script Iowa, which I think could still be included with at least one of the uniforms.

I am in favor of keeping black, gold, and white variations. That said, for the black and gold versions, I'd like to see only those two colors ... no white.

I also like how some teams have found subtle ways to incorporate a tribute to something about the school, the city, or the state where the team is located. For instance, Wisconsin has the Madison city skyline on the backs of one of their uniforms. I think something like that would be cool, as long as it's subtle (and obviously don't want to do the exact same thing as Wisky or anyone else.)
Water tower?

While I think the black looks good, I do miss the gold. I suppose it's nostalgia talking, though. I wouldn't mind the giant Herky at mid court, either, like back in the mid 80s.

We'll see how sentimental Ben is when it comes to court paint, jerseys and that sort of thing.
I wonder how much input the coach has these days. I mentioned Alford and he really did try to make things his own. I remember how excited people got for that kind of attitude he had about reinventing the entire program. That story didn't go how we hoped but Alford made it seem like this was just the beginning of bigger better times. With so much revenue at stake from TV and apparel companies do the schools just kind of do what they're told now?

The old scorers table was cool too. Just everything about that seemed like an era where it was appointment basketball. Even the original seating looks so much tighter to the court.

First off, when was the last time that Fran was on KXNO? I'm not a regular listener, but I don't recall reading about any recent interviews he gave on any talk show.

Some classic Iowa uniforms from the past.

The way back machine - The only Iowa team to play for a national championship - 1956.

1970 team. Last sole Big Ten championship for Iowa.

1979 Iowa - Last championship for Iowa.

And for those partial to the script Iowa:

A good start in simplifying the uniforms.
Give me the 85 uniforms and that logo at mid court and I'm sold on a lifetime contract.

Say what you want about Alford, but he did try to do some things with Carver. Had the court repainted, created the Hawks Nest (I think) and so on. Unfortunately his tenure didn't go real well.

….the more excited I am for the future of Iowa men’s basketball.

He was on KXNO this morning. He talked about the need to get players into the weight room to make them stronger and more physical. Stressed the importance of hiring an elite level strength and conditioning coach. Finally!

Stated he is not a fan of NIL (prefers to develop players) but knows that is what basketball is now, and will fully embrace it. He wants to build a culture at Iowa. Says Beth is all about winning. Hinted at changes coming to Carver and how he likes “simple” uniforms. Expects to have his coaching staff complete in the next couple of days.

You can tell by listening to him that he has a passion for the University and winning. He’s going to be a good one.

Unfortunately he has one flaw….he pronounced Kirk’s last name as furRENTZ and not FAIRentz. I’m sure that will get corrected soon enough.
Yeah I heard that too and cringed a bit. I just don't know how anyone, especially someone who says they are an Iowa fan, can still get that wrong. I will let it go, but man...

One thing I hope that changes is teaching good vs bad fouls. Fran teams always committed so many soft pointless fouls resulting in and1s, or didn't foul on fast breaks to stop easy layups. Then he's sitting guys constantly for having 2 or 3 fouls, petrified of anyone ever fouling out as if being on the bench scared isn't accomplishing the same thing. Like who freaking cares, if it stops a bucket it's worth it, and if one of your starters fouls out, next man in. Enough of the layup line when you know you're beat off the dribble.

Many times Iowa fouled on a fast break as to not give up an easy basket. Connor was arguably the most memorable one doing it. Payton Sandfort another one, but it was fairly common during Fran’s time here.

Players have mentioned that Fran coached “give them what they earned” which was described as don’t compound getting beat by fouling them ‘in the act of shooting’ creating an and one as well. There were times that players got beat and then fouled weakly, but I highly doubt that was coached into them as it was poor judgment/execution.

My brother, who has been a fan for 55 years and who attends all but 1 home football game with me every season, still mispronounces Kirk’s name.
