Are they 17-13 since one of their wins is a non D1 victory? Why does their record say 18-13 when one of their games doesn't count. Teams play those so it doesn't effect their RPI.
Their RPI record says 17-13. I'm assuming that the sheet the committee will use would say the same.
There are some teams instead of playing 250 plus games, played two non D1 schools. I think that's also one of the reason the commiittee is changing the RPI next year.
The should have non conference be weighted if you play top 100 or top 50 teams it counts more than when you play a 250 plus team. So like Indiana this year beating North Carolina and Kansas helps them more. MInnesota who just played 125-175 teams doesn't go into league play with a 4 RPI when they didn't play a top team if i recall.
Mountain West Confernce did this a few years ago. Their teams would play 2-3 non-division 1 teams. It wouldn't affect their RPI at all. They had records as 19-9 or 20-8 (only got credit for 26-28games) as other teams are play 30+ games. All their RPIs were top 100 so they got a bunch of bids for a few years.
RPI will not be used next year! They will have something different.
Exactly if we did that with one of our 250 plus opponents our RPI would be probably 10 spots better. They are changing it next year, not getting rid of it.
On a podcast with the chairperson they stated that they are "looking at other metrics" to replace the RPI. They stand that it was outdated and that there are more things to measure in college basketball.
It is a positive move. I do hope they clarify what they are going to use and put weight on shortly after this season ends, so teams know what they are dealing with and can schedule non-conference games next year accordingly.
Well they talked how teams are playing the "RPI game" and how some teams are scheduled front heavy (lots of 100-150) teams in the non-conf. They also talked how teams can win 1-2 games on the road and that's enough to drive their RPI way up. They also talked about the non-division 1 issue, being a problem. Teams are figuring out to schedule non-division 1 programs over the RPI 250+ teams and not being penalized.
