*****Iowa vs Washington Game Thread*****

*A lot easier to get a shot in when there is a good screen and the ball is passed on time. That was a major difference. Credit to coaches and players.

*Also, things happen when players dribble to the lane. Sometimes turnovers, but most time tonight it helped the offense to actually work. Credit to coaches and players.

*Sometimes they get to the lane, however, and forget that shooting an 8 footer is a better option than an improbable ankle pass. Syd? Stremlow? Kylie?

*Hi, Good Lucy. So glad you sent your evil twin home. That game should help! 8-8/4-4 3pt .

*Mallegni with extended minutes with Stuelke out. She needs that time playing so she can learn from some of her mistakes. Credit to Jan, I think, for leaving her in after the two turnovers.

*Stremlow was in on a few too many turnovers. It's great that she is always looking for a play, but she needs to discover that sometimes she is the play. Take that shot.

McCabe on the sweet step-up 2.
She found the net tonight. Quick release, not always perfect balance, but when she's on it's pretty great. And just making some 3s opens everything up so much more (TMc and Lucy). Back to back 3s can break a team a little, and it feels like thats the first game they have done it since November.

* Happy for the win. Just need to beat Northwestern now, and shoot 70% in the CC22 game. Easy right?

Great points. Overall a nice win, amazing what making shots does for a team. Lucy played great. The bad shooting and turnovers were killing this team so at least the shooting turned around. Still too many TOs. Your point about getting in the lane and over passing is spot on as well as Stremlow needing to make shooting an option.

If Kylie and Lucy can master coming to a jump stop without then traveling it would help. A couple of the drive and toss the ball at the rim drives still by Feuerback and Affolter. Stremlow acts like her feet are glued to the floor when she catches the ball on the perimeter and then tries to make difficult bad angle passes. In general still a bit of the pass up a good shot only to overpass and take a bad one or turn it over.

Iowa scores 14 points in the 4th qtr with their reserves in the game.

Iowa wins 85-61

How Iowa got to 85 points:

9-13 (69%) from three
24-33 (73%) from two
...............................................
33-46 (72%) Overall

10-14 (71%) FTs
Missed the 1st half, but 2nd half offense was Lots of Read 'n React backcuts. They all looked a lot more comfortable, including posters on this board.

Yeah, it's like Stremlow was coached at an early age that dribbling is the enemy.

I agree that dribbling without a purpose is bad news, but using 2-3 to create a better passing angle or forcing help situations is necessary for an offense to be effective.

I wonder what happened behind the scenes after the last game. Jan Jensen seemed more intense. Did she transition from top assistant coach to head coach in her coaching style?

Love the effort, but these subs can barely get it across half court since they came in. Turnover city and flustered. But at least have the cushion to experience the pressure!
How much “playing time” gave these gals had to date? There is a reason why these gals “sit on the bench” too.
What does it take to make you guys happy? Jeeeebussss Christmas!

I doubt that…. generally speaking, we look for things to justify our preconceived beliefs.

As I said, I didn’t get to see much of the game and I’ve seen plenty of speculation about better movement etc. but here’s the deal…

The box score, past & present tell a clear story. For the season, we shoot 46% from the field and 32% from the 3pt line. So that’s 12 more 2s = 24pts & 5 more 3s = 15 more points then n this game above mean. Everything looks better when that happens. The players don’t press. The coach doesn’t press. They don’t have to do a ton of “coaching” adjusting, etc. Jan wasn’t any better coaching this game than she was in the last six..

We didn’t have one of those games where we shot less than 50% from the free-throw line and we shot better than we have all year. We still had four freshmen throw the ball away 12 times and two of our lead guards threw the ball away five times.

Nothing changed we made more shots and our defense played better.

So those who watched the game are "speculating" and you, who didn't see much of the game are, are telling us the real truth. Really?

I saw why Levin hasn't been playing. She looked the most uncomfortable of the last 3 out there. I think Jada showed she could be counted on as a sub if her attitude is right.

So 70% shooting didn’t change anything, game wise, coaching wise, strategy wise etc… how about I just watch the game it’s taped and then come back and say the same thing

I’ll say it a better way, I bet I can watch our worst loss and this win and generally speaking just based on the fact we had 23 turnovers alone make just as good a case that nothing changed but the shooting than you could the other way around?

Really!!!! I mean holy shit we made 17 more shots above our average. That makes a coach look pretty smart.

Here’s the deal if she “figured it out” like so many people want to be true so they can be “right” about how horrible a coach she is, then the next game when our shooting drops back down to normal will still win easily, right

The post-game press conferences after the Oregon and Washington games seemed like they were in a hallway without the typical table, microphones, and Hawkeye backdrop. Is the more formal post-game a standard for the B1G that the new schools haven’t caught up to yet?
