I'm dog sitting for my parent's this week and can definitely see the appeal of dog ownership.

My neighbors are otherwise good people but for some reason were tying their young Golden to a tree near our fence (their yard is completely fenced too) There was a picket missing so I could reach through and pet and comfort the dog. Sometimes they left for extended periods and I'd just let myself into their yard to tend to the dog, like when she got her cord completely wrapped around the tree.

Long story short ... we now will dog sit her up to a week at a time. But imagine having a Golden, who is ofc naturally hyper friendly, in your house to whom you are their absolute hero. It can be frustrating actually, but the comedy of it makes it worth it. Goldens are too sweet and too energetic, I'll tell ya.

Anyway, so we've got them dog sitting for us too occasionally so it's worked out really well.

Dude, call Animal Control and tell them your neighbor leaves their Golden Retriever outside tied to a tree.

You can do it anonymously.

Another downside is when dogs die it's soul crushing.
One of our execs rescheduled a meeting from Thursday to Friday to take her dog to the vet, so naturally people asked on Friday how the dog was doing. She said they were putting him down on Saturday. Dog came to her during the meeting and sat on her lap and I almost cried. 17-year-old dog, older than her kids.

17 years is a great run, at least.

Like I said they were doing it, but not anymore. I had asked him a couple of times about it and he muttered something about his kids leaving the gait open. I don't know, I think part of it may be that he grew up on a farm where perhaps pets staid mainly outside?

I know they take the dog to the vet routinely, give her good care and she is always anxious to see them when they return. My dog on his walks will occasionally approach their front door seemingly wanting to visit which confirms my trust in them.

If they tie him up again, tag me with their address and I'll take care of it legally and anonymously.

That's a promise. :)

I had a friend 10 years ago that had a friend that knew a family that kept their Golden Retriever outside all day alone and the dog got so stressed he used to swallow rocks. :(

Probably resulted in some rock solid shits.

Thanks, but I'm personally involved with the dog enough now that I wouldn't feel any better if she was taken away. Took her for a walk yesterday - actually she pulled me along for a run. Strong AF. Nope, I'd feel terrible if she left.

Great.

If the owner ties her to a tree again, you can talk to him about why it's bad.

Thanks for all you do.
Gall dangit ... I do deserve a pat on the back!

There's a fence panel down now, crazy winds lately. But before he fixes it I want to ask him about fashioning a doggy door because she loves to come over and visit and play Frisbee. Guess I like to play Frisbee too.

Dogs, or Canis lupus familiaris, are domesticated carnivorous mammels and a subspecies of gray wolves.

Millions of people enjoy having dogs as pets. They also serve millions of handicapped people. There is saying that dogs are "man's best friend"

Bottom Line: dogs kick ass

I was going to take the dog for a walk and a thunderstorm hit.

That's another downside of dog ownership: you can't control the weather.
