7 was Iowa's lucky number during the 1981 season. Six of Iowa's opponents scored exactly 7 points, beginning with the 10-7 win over #7 Nebraska to open the season.
Hey, EvilMonkey, you've let your own thread slide. It's now 3 days until Hawkeye football.
A recent #3 worth remembering is Keith Duncan, who set Hawkeye and Big Ten record for FGs in a season (29) in 2019. He hit some clutch game-winners, was a consensus All-American, and named to the BTN all-decade team.
#2 - Gordon Locke, 2x first-team All-American in 1921 and 1922. The Hawks went undefeated both of those seasons, and highlights included ending Knute Rockne and Notre Dame's 20-game winning streak in 1921 and winning at the Yale Bowl in 1922 (the first "west" team to beat Yale). Locke scored 12 TDs during 1922 in only seven games, which established a Big Ten record.
#2 Tarig Holman. Kind of overlooked being in the Fry to Ferentz transition years but anybody that picks off two passes against some guy named Tom Brady in one game will always have a great story to tell. Too bad they lost that game 12-9, would've been a bright spot in Hayden's final year. Also my freshman year at Iowa and first Iowa-Michigan game in person.
#1 will be dedicated to Aubrey Devine, among other featured players and moments, but first I give you the top play by a #1 to end the countdown to kickoff for the 2024 Iowa football season, and it's fitting that it end with a walk-off.................
Duke Slater, a former Iowa Hawkeye and NFL football player, lived in Clinton as a teenager and led Clinton High School to two state championships in 1913 and 1914.
