I’m going to have to give Whiskey Road another try. I had a work meeting in Cedar Falls a couple weeks ago and we went there for lunch after hearing great things. It was a big time let down for us. Everyone got something different and nobody was all that thrilled with what they got. Most of it seemed like it came out of the microwave.
On the other hand, I went to Urban Pie the next day and that was great. I would definitely go there again.
They catered a wedding I was at last summer and it was excellent. Had their carry out at their old location multiple times and it was always great.
Possible when they expanded the quality suffered (EXAMPLE Hickory Park Ames) but my experiences with them have been very good.
Perhaps I'll find the poorest neighborhood joint around and show up with a shirt and tie. It will all go fine.
Whiskey Road has the best tenderloin in CF town. Wilbos and Bigfoot Bettys the best burgers in CF. Bighead Burgersbest in Wloo.
Had a conference in downtown Waterloo once. Was walking to get dinner and some woman across the street yelled something. I didn’t catch what she said, so I said, “What?”.
And she said, “you want to have a good time?”
And, I said, “Oh! No. Thanks”.
Only time I’m ever been propositioned. It was actually fairly sketchy down around the convention center when I was there.

Sub city is the end all be all for subs. Lord they are beyond huge, so good.
The ham Swiss Cole slaw with Russian dressing is a mess but so good.

I’d second this. Whiskey Road has been pretty “meh” every time I’ve gone. Agreed on Urban Pie too. It was damn good each time.

Not far from here. A couple of their menu items look great.
Only if you like freaky ass marionette dolls hanging from the ceiling.
Never been to either place since the couple split. But I always thought you go for the corn bread and then eat average BBQ.

I've never been, but I knew the owner before he had a physical location. I remember him setting up catering for some special occasions in a bar and him giving me free food when it was all over. Fantastic food and a hell of a nice guy.

Screaming Eagle isn't bad, but if you're downtown and looking for a good burger go to Big Head Burger. You might get shot, but one of the best burgers in Iowa. Wilbo's in CF also has a great burger.
Yes Big Head Burger building doesn't look like you're having some fine dining but it's really good.
I grew up near their location in Waterloo…might have to grab a sub next time I’m home. Always pretty good quality.
They were a local chain I was concerned about during covid.
Isn't there a sub city on kimball/ridgeway as well (waterloo)?
I can say from my drive around of the 'Loo, their bad parts of town are worse than DSM worsts of town in regards to feeling comfortable. Still not bad compared to major metros.
Had Starbecks tonight as it was in hotel and didn't feel like going back out. On my level of BBQ, I'd give it a C+

I've had their catering at a couple of weddings and I thought it was pretty good.
Still pissed off I couldn't make ride along with @Hawkman98 work out with schedules. That would have been awesome. Think Superbad.
