Incarnate Word

Wow. Just when I thought ISU couldn't embarrass themselves anymore. The funniest thing will be if they crap the bed through most of the rest of the year so even a win over IW wouldn't make them bowl eligible. Although now those players can serve their suspension. This is so classic ISU. Please on all things holy, don't ever let Iowa get to the point that they need to beat Incarnate Word to be bowl eligible.

Although I think ISU will be good enough to get 5-6 wins by the time this game is played, my god it would be great to see them at 4-7. Nothing like paying Incarnate Word 300-400K to play in December without the hopes of a bowl game.

That would be hilarious actually and definitely in the realm of possibility.

To be fair, I don't see why this is so embarrassing. They basically have to get a 12th game and options are limited. They aren't going to schedule another P5 team, they lost a game with an FCS opponent and are replacing them with one (albeit much worse). Common sense would say that they should be an FCS opponent, no matter who it is.

We all know how much Barta needs 7 home games. If the UNI game gets rained out, are we all going to laugh when he schedules some random FCS team at the end of the year?

It was funny when Pollard tried to get a non-scholarship team to play them for bowl eligibility, but at least Incarnate Word is above that. Who else should they have scheduled?

All Spring/Summer long, all the ISU fans were predicting 8, 9 or 10 wins. Take away the SDSU and Iowa games, which they all had down as W's, there's still 6, 7 or 8 wins left on the board, to become bowl eligible. Tells me Campbell and Pollard aren't as confident in their team, as their loud mouth fans are....

All of this can be true and still embarrassing. There's a reason why they didn't schedule IW in the first place. I get what you are saying, they are making the best out of a bad situation, but it's certainly not ideal.

Oh I'm all for laughing at it. The reason it came about is completely out of their hands. But they should have set something up and not announced it until later because as someone said if they aren't in jeopardy of missing a bowl (or making) then it's a hilarious game to play.

Just want to make sure everyone has perspective that if the roles were reversed, Iowa very likely would be doing the same thing.

BTW, the Cyclones won’t be responsible to pay Incarnate Word if they make the Big 12 title game.

Don't act like Iowa wouldn't have scheduled a similar game had their NIU game been cancelled. I highly doubt they'd be scheduling an SEC team to get their 12th game.
I’m fairly certain they would not. Especially not the day of the Big Ten championship game.:D

I'm curious to know which P5 team you think Iowa would schedule, assuming they didn't make the B10 championship game.

If Iowa State has 4 wins or less, how many people show up in December to watch them play Incarnate Word?

Anybody... they would schedule anybody to fullfil their schedule. There are limited options and all the AD is looking for is a ‘yes’

People can poke fun at Iowa's non con schedule all they want, but I'd be willing to bet that we would stoop to playing IW. We also play nine conference games against better teams as a whole then ISU, so there's that.

Incarnate Word cancelled a game already on their schedule to play ISU. That's a bunch of crap.

Basically dumped their prom date for a hotter one.
Thats BS for sure. If I was the AD of that school, I'd demand a cut from the ISU vs IW contest........

Would Iowa attempt to contact a B1G East team that wasn’t on their schedule? It would more than likely be a 13th game for that East team, so I’m not sure how that would be in regulation with B1G and NCAA rules. But a 2:30 matchup before the B1G championship would be pretty cool.

At the end of the day, if Iowa is in position to replace an FCS team, they would be replacing with a different FCS team or a very low level FBS team. Barta would likely go about it in a different way and maybe not do it after week 2 looking desperate, but he would do it because he needs his 7th home game.

There's almost a zero percent chance he schedules a P5 opponent away from Kinnick.

But we didn't so we can tease them about it. Its the same thing as the suspensions - yeah we probably would have let the suspended players play against ISU if game 1 had been rained out, but it wasn't and we didn't so I will continue to take jabs about Campbell doing it.

I just think it's hilarious to do this after losing 1 game. It means either A. they need every penny they can get because let's be honest no one will care about this game enough to sell out or B. they are worried about making a bowl.

They should treat it like the MLB does make up games...play it if it means anything to either team or else end the season one game short.

So IW drops a home game and gets nothing if ISU makes the B12 championship game.

They must feel pretty confident that has close to 0% chance of happening.

I doubt Iowa would schedule a make up game that late in the season and they wouldn't need to this year. If the Hawks are sitting at 6 or more wins, beating Incarnate Word is not going to improve their bowl destination. And every member of the coaching staff and the AD expect them to be bowl eligible.
