Incredible image from the Rose Bowl going viral...

B-2-Flyover-from-above.jpg
Most of you probably didn't pay attention but at the game they introduced a couple generals. One was Paul Tibbets IV - the commander of the 509th Bomb Wing - home of the B2 at Whiteman AFB. He is the grandson of the Paul Tibbets who flew the Enola Gay in WW2. And for those who dont.know their Iowa history - Enola Gay was Paul's mother who was from Carroll County Iowa.

I wish I could be retired so I could worry about such trivial matters. It's the "Stealth" I was "technically right" about. Fighter/bomber I was wrong about. Learn something new everyday. I'll repay you on your next laptop question which will be along shortly.
No reason to get pissy. There is a big difference between a fighter and a bomber - nothing wrong with someone pointing that out.

I told him I'd repay him on his next laptop question. I'll look less ignorant around the Fly Boys if there is a next time and for that, I'm appreciative.

A lot more red in that stadium that I would have imagined from actually watching the game. Probably photoshopped.

Most of the red in the stadium was from the Iowan's being sun burnt and not wearing shirts.

Having been at the game, I think the ratio was closer to 66/34 in favor of Iowa fans. Which wouldve been huge if we had absolutely anything to cheer for. I remember folks even getting a roar going during a failed defensive stand when we were down 28-0.

You said Stealth fighter. That's a different airplane than the Stealth bomber. Not really a nitpick. It's like referring to a B-52 as a fighter. The stealth bomber is the B,-2 Spirit, which is what flew over the Rose Bowl. When people refer to a Stealth fighter, they are usually talking about the F-117 Nighthawk.

For what it is worth, I tweeted "Stealth fighter with fly-over to start Rose Parade. #goosebumps." And the pilot of the plane, going by the handle of B-2 Pilot, retweeted it. I don't think that he was too offended that I mischaracterized the plane as a "fighter" instead of a "bomber."

While we're picking nits, the stealth fighter is really an attack aircraft, not a fighter, and its proper designation is F-117A.

This. If Iowa would have given us anything to cheer about in the 1st quarter, or 1st half, the Rose Bowl would have went absolutely bonkers.

This picture easily illustrated why it is dumb to try to "Stripe" road games. People wearing gold are easy to see, including a significant portion bunched together on the Stanford side. The people wearing black don't stand out. In this pick there are areas that are definitely 100% full of Iowa fans that look like there's a significant amount of red, even though the seating is uncolored aluminum bleachers.

Here's a pic of the empty stadium where you can see which sections have red seating.

I also said it didn't matter. There are a whole lot of reasons to wish you were retired. That is just one of them.

It wasn't striped. In person it was obvious where Iowa was and where Stanford was.

Maybe I'm just tripping....but the "black" endzone doesn't appear much darker than half the field imo. ??

That picture distorts color for some reason. If you expand the picture you will notice the black and gold start to show.

Rumor has it that you couldn't even see Macaffery running from that elevation due to his amazing speed. Come to think of it, our guys couldn't see him from ground zero either.

Those damn nits can be so damn bothering - especially on a gnat's ass. To be a little more correct... the F-117 used stealth technology but it was strictly a ground attack fighter only and was retired in 2008 with the fielding of the F-22. The next generation was the F-22 Raptor and was a stealth tactical fighter. Production of the F-22 ceased in 2011 but it is still in service. The F-35 Lightning II is the current version and is a stealth multi-role fighter.

Go HAWKS!

I think the sun angle didn't help at all, most of the Stanford seats were in the sun for most of the game, a lot of the Iowa fans were in the shade on the south/west side, so it's hard to tell the colors in that picture

Though wouldn't that be our own faults then for listening to the marketing department?
All it would have taken was one Facebook post and one Tweet from the official Iowa account to say 'wear Gold to the Rose Bowl' to organize fans and 80% of the people attending would have showed up in Gold. I knew quite a few people that went and at some point they all asked me what color they were supposed to wear.

Interesting.

The pic is real. If you'll notice, there's a watermark with the photographer's signature in the bottom right corner that says "Mark Holtzman". Mark Holtzman is a professional aerial photographer. Here's a link to his website, which includes this picture: http://www.markholtzman.com/

While I can't be 100% certain, I'd say he wasn't in the blimp. If you click the Stealth pic on his website, he has several more pics posted from the game, including one of the Goodyear blimp from above the blimp.
