Not sure how much smarter he needs to be. Sammy's issue was taking down in the 2nd and not being able to escape and ended up getting tilted. Dudley and Brown.
Ive said it before but other than recruiting this teams biggest priority is getting guys more comfortable rolling around in uncomfortable situations. Gliman vs Nico was a good example of if the other guy gets a foot off of our shot it typically turns the tide into there favor. Clark is the only exception to this on the team. That's why Clark is as good as he is. If we could just combine Clarks mat savy with Gilman on his feet we would have a hodge winner.
Why cant Gilman break down and turn guys? His techs are all takedowns without backpoints unless he catches you on his feet.
I've come to the conclusion either Brands doesn't value teaching tilts or none of the coaches can teach it because they weren't those types either.
I use to think it was just the right kids but there is no reason Gilman and Sorenson cant have that tilt in their arsenal. PSU can hit a tilt with 90% of their lineup. Iowa is at 30% and one of those 3 is Meyer switching like a middle schooler. And Im pretty sure Clark, Brooks and Meyer had this in their arsenal before they signed with Iowa.
This staff has to get this through the f'ing heads at some point. I could make a case that they actually made guys like Evans and Clark worse at turning from FR to SR year. Evans was a hammer in the beginning only to end up a ankle holding staller in the end of his career.
We have a million threads on recruiting but some of you need to look at the other monkey in the room that is this. Seriously Why does Cael spend like 75% of their practices rolling around but Brands acts like any sort of funk or tilting is beneath him? So lets drill high crotches until you cant walk off the practice mat some more.
