As expected. Duke likes to grind it out under JS. Their tempo is garbage. Iowa needs to play from in front or keep it close early because Dook can squeeze you to death. Rebounding should be an issue tomorrow but if it’s not, we have a chance.

Iowa typically does not win these type of games. I sure hope they do, but I am far from optimistic.
Iowa has a tendency to piss their pants in noncon games against the big dogs.
Hopefully not tonight as I’ll be cheering from MSG and a win would be pretty epic.

Well, as long as those big dogs aren't in a down year like some of the recent wins over North Carolina.
But yes, if Duke is any kind of legit tournament team this year, similar to last year, then you're better off watching World Cup highlights than tuning in to see if Iowa finally pulls off the big one.
If they keep it under 10, I will feel slightly more optimistic about this team's outlook this year.
Duke is definitely beatable, I think Iowa fans should not necessarily be confident but certainly hopeful.
Duke is a finesse team and Iowa IMO typically does really well against those types of teams. I'd say I'll be watching but I'm old and there is no way I am awake for the second half of this game.

Limit Dukes 2nd/3rd chance points. If we can do that and hang around. Anything can happen.
I disagree. We beat UNC twice under Fran in the non-con. Beat UVA on the road last year. I mean sure plenty of losses in there too, but we've had success as well.

Iowa has beat UNC the last 2 times they have faced them.
Just in the last 5 years, in Non-Conf, they have beaten UNC, Virginia, Texas Tech, Syracuse, Uconn, and Oregon. And they have beat Iowa St. 4 out of 5 times.
Do you mean because they lost to #1 Gonzaga a few years ago?

In my head I was thinking the two times against the Zags and once against Nova. I was more getting at when an Iowa team has a big stage (postseason, big opponent, etc), they seem to crumble. Maybe I just have blinders on.
In my mind, there have been about 3 tiers during the Fran era. The rebuild (the first 3 years), the build to respectability (Year 4 - 8) and the last 5 years, where they Fran has established a consistent NCAA Team with the recruitments of Garza, Cook, Weiskamp, Murray Twins, etc.
The last 5 years (including this year), Iowa has been an NCAA program every years (hopefully this year holds up) and ranked all of those years.
Some people like to pretend Fran has been the same and mediocre but the facts point that he has rebuilt (if you want to say slowly that's fine) from an absolute disaster to a competitive team to a perennial NCAA Team that finishes in the Top 6 of the conference.
One of those losses to Gonzaga and the loss to Villanova were during Phase 2 and during the post-season.

They are 15 - 4 in Non-Conf against P6 teams during this time. That's pretty damn good.
Now, hopefully, Phase 4 of the Fran era is taking that next step to post-season success and get a few Sweet 16's/Elite 8's (and of course everyone's dream - Final Four).

the real issue with playing dookie is you are playing 5 versus 8 although 3 of their players are allowed to wear black and white striped shirts.
maybe I'm wrong but TP seems lately to have become a little bit of a ball hog and forcing his way inside to difficult situations, where earlier in the season he was driving and kicking the ball out and choosing better shot selections.
I don’t think you’re off base. It’s undeniable that his assist numbers have been down since the Seton Hall game (his best game, where he also supposedly injured himself). He also hasn’t scored as well or looked nearly as explosive, however. In general, Tony hasn’t looked like he did to start the year, and I’m hoping that it’s just overcompensation from that injury and we see a return to form tonight. We need it

I was clearly proven wrong with the stats in this thread but tonight was the kind of game I was talking about. Something like 4-5 air balls in the first half just showed a lack of confidence and the game was never in doubt. On to the next.
