Iowa -8.5 tonight

I honestly think people are over thinking this...

1) Hoiberg's teams don't like to foul, which should mean this won't be one of the frustrating super physical games where we struggle to play through contact.
2) Nebraska's defense is worse than ours. They don't block a lot of shots, they don't get a lot of steals or force many other turnovers.
3) Nebraska shoots poorly (33% from 3; 59.5% FTs)
4) Nebraska is short. They play 3 guys who are 6-8 or 6-9. Luka and Ryan will feast.
5) Nebraska just doesn't have as good of players as we do. Garza and Wieskamp will be by far the two best players on the court. Joe Toussaint may be the best guard on the court. Even Till will be able to compete in this game if we need him for more than his spot minutes roll.

Nebraska has probably one player right now that would get a lot of minutes on a Big Ten roster. The rest are Miles recruits that don’t really fit Hoiberg, grad transfer fills ins or extremely young...aka the 17 year old center. They play the fastest in the Big Ten but not sure they have the roster to do so. At this point, Hoiberg is just trying to establish his culture. I’ll be satisfied if they get to 5 Big Ten wins.

Walk-ons, too.

I do think the league is tougher now than it was in the early 60's but that could be recency bias on my part.

Thanks for your kind words, but the Big Ten was a grind then too. As noted, Ohio State won the national title in 1960 and was runnerup in 1961, its only loss of the entire season (27-1).

Purdue (16-7) was outstanding. Indiana (15-9) was excellent. Minnesota, Northwestern, and Illinois were tough. Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Michigan weren't so strong.

Iowa (18-6 / 10-4) finished the 1960-61 season ranked No. 6 in the nation.

joe toussant is not the best guard on the court. That belongs to Cameron Mack. Till is no where near the level of Mack/Green/Burke/Cheatum. Nebraska has 4 good guards, all 4 would receive significant playing time at Iowa.

Fredrick better get healthy fast or we're toast. Garza will continue to get doubled/tripled and teams will make us beat them from outside like last night. Evelyn and JT are not good 3 point shooters.

Please note, I said "may", and he wasn't yesterday. Mack played well. Mack is also a sophomore, so I'll look forward to the comparison over the next 2+ years as well.

And, I'm sorry, but Mack might get minutes in the Bakari Evelyn role, but he's not playing over Bohannon, Frederick, McCaffery and probably not Toussaint given the strengths of the other three mentioned... Toussaint would typically be used in reserve fashion in our defensive lineup. No one else is getting "significant" playing time.

I see that but there is just no way that anyone on their team can guard and stop Garza. I'd maybe take the points but no way UNL straight up.

Oh, really?

Joe and Mack played to a draw.

Maybe, but only because Fran would prioritize good shooters over anything else. Cam Mack is #12 in the country in assist per game right now. And that’s with playing on a team that is subpar shooting the ball. He’s very good. I’m not sure Iowa has anybody on their team capable of putting up a triple double like he did vs Purdue.
