What does preferred walk on mean?

Free meals?
They are guarateed a spot on the team and are part of the training table. Not sure if PWO's share in the NIL pot or get anything. They are not on scholarship or recive room and board. If his dad is GM for the Pacers, he can afford to send him to Iowa, FWIW.

Yea. But can he get him on another big ten roster?!? We just have to be thankful that the nepotism is all done for men’s bball now, even if the old boy’s club is still in full effect.

Taking on - even as just a walk-on - your son's boss's kid means you ain't going nowhere after this season concludes.

IE, Fran ain't leaving.

Gotta have players to run the scout team.
Exactly. FWIW, Westfield High School is one of the better programs in the state and is starting to turn out some D1 talent. It's where Braden Smith of Purdue graduated from 2 years ago and they have some younger players that are pretty good juniors and sophomores now. I haven't seen this kid play but he is probably a good D1 talent at a smaller school.
