Iowa Baseball - “Everybody knows that there’s only really one reason why we haven’t moved the season back,” Heller said Tuesday.

The win also gave Heller a platform to advocate for a topic he’s passionate about — moving the college baseball season to a more hospitable season for colder-climate teams.

A clip of him saying it is “senseless” to be “playing in the winter when three quarters of the country can’t even go outside” in his postgame news conference after the LSU win quickly gained traction on social media.

“Everybody knows that there’s only really one reason why we haven’t moved the season back,” Heller said Tuesday. “People don’t want to lose their advantage. It makes zero sense that we’re doing this. We should be training right now.”

The CWS is already in June after most school's spring semester has ended. The season has already been shortened by nearly 20 games. Does he want to cut further games or extend the season to well into the summer

Southern teams have always had an advantage.

Moving the season back doesn't change that.

Just what it is.

All Major bowl games in the south most teams don’t leave the south in their “winter” meh it is what it is. Winter in the north is miserable.

It's hard to move the season too far back because some of the college summer leagues usually start in June.

Why couldn’t it be a summer sport, CWS in August. Most college athletes of all sports are on campus training year round anyway. Would actually free up players to focus more on academics Sept-June and baseball in the summer. And it would take place in the summer sports doldrums before football

Are there other sports played over the summer when classes are out

They really should try a wrap around season with 1/3 of games in the fall and the remainder of the season in the spring. College golf does this very effectively.

Northern teams should demand that some college football playoff games be held in northern venues. The climate inside Minneapolis, Detroit, and Indy isn't any different from New Orleans, Atlanta, or Phoenix.

Maybe the big ten with its endless supply of money could build a very minimalist domed baseball field or two in the big ten footprint so teams could play some games closer to home.

No seating, stream the games.

I doubt the Big Ten wants to spend more money on baseball than it has to.

Because teams with draft-eligible players will not finish the season with the same team. Since the owners pushed the draft to the all-star weekend, there have been voiced concerns over the draft date's proximity to the trade deadline, summer development, and scouting. Based on the relative unhappiness of the "baseball" people (coaches, GM's , scouts) doubtful they are going to wait on a 1st or 2nd rounder to play a conference tournament, regional super, and CWS before they get them in the system.

That makes sense

They play basketball in between the fall semester and the spring semester, when classes are out and often the dormitories are closed.

No reason why college baseball can't be a spring/summer sport.

Conference and tournament play happens when class is in session, right?

🤣 🤣 At "several" schools none of which you named. Football is a fall sport so try again.
There are no official summer sports.

But with that said, the majority of NCAA sport seasons fall outside academic calendars: starting before classes, ending after classes, or going through winter break.

It’s obviously tough, though because of different schedules. Some colleges don’t start until after Labor Day some early August… and others barely enter into May and some go into June. Some take off a week in late December and some take off over a month.
