Iowa Baseball vs Northern Illinois - Tuesday 3pm

Iowa up 11-8 top of the 8th now, hope they hold on. Here's their current lineup with current BA, pretty impressive.
Whelan .368
McCoy .364
Neustrom .404
Adams .310
Judkins.333
Hoeg .312
Norman .333
Cropley .121
Boe .121

Yeah, the pitching today has been less than impressive. Judkins has made up for it with his offense today though.

Offensively Iowa was really good today...
-Whelan 3-6 with 2 RBIs
-Neustrom 3-5 with 3 RBIs
-Judkins 2-4 with 3 RBIs
-Adams 2-4 with 1 RBI
-McCoy 2-5 and scored three runs
-Norman 2-3 and scored three runs
-Boe was 1-4 but had 2 RBIs

Pitching is where today was less than stellar
-Judkins 3 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
-Wood 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 3 wild pitches
-Ritter 2.1 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K's - gave up a HR after a walk, gets credited with the W
-Martsching 1.2 IP , 0 H, 0 R, 2 K's and gets credited with the save

Martsching was good. Winning this game is big in a sense (you always want to win), but Iowa has an RPI of 13 right now. NIU was like 290 and losing to them at home would've killed Iowa's RPI. The higher you can get your non-conference RPI (ie: win, win, win) and no bad loses, then you could realistically go 14-10 in B1G play and possibly get an at large depending on the wins/loses.

I have a feeling midweek games might be an adventure for Iowa this year. Iowa's next home game is a week from Wednesday against Iowa Wesleyan.

Iowa now goes to Florida to face Villanova, Bucknell, and Lehigh x2.

Whelan has been raking since they moved him to leadoff. That was a brilliant decision. Norman has really come on lately, too.

Neustrom is living up to that preseason All-Big Ten hype so far, which is great to see. McCoy was one of the few batters who didn't have a great weekend at the DQ Classic, so good to see him get going a little bit here. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Midweek games could be an adventure for sure. One thing that really hurts Iowa's pitching depth right now is Eldred being out. One of the current weekend guys would probably be doing the midweek game (or at least available to do so) if he was back. That would also probably ease the burden on Iowa's relievers if you could count on Gallagher and Eldred to each go 6-7 innings on the weekend.
