Iowa can't compete with Ames on this ..

But they are cutting hundreds of spots. Dude, I live here. You can't just make up your own "facts".

I’ll find the article.
Well, I am sorry you feel that way. You are mistaken in your beliefs.

Campus town is not Ames Chamber of Commerce's job. ISU should take responsibility that they can't keep businesses down there other than bars with corrupt owners.

Ames leadership is superior to ISU's.

Dude I know a guy that was on the city council and left because they refuse to do anything. Anytime a project comes up they shoot it down. Again, the campus town revitalization was just one of many. You might live there but I assure you that you’re in the dark there.

I was at every game during those two terrible years. I don't care about number of tickets sold. There were below 50,000 in attendance for a few games.
Good work adddessing 1/2 of the numbers.
Maybe you were sitting in the same row as me. I think every game had over 50k. So now we have different opinions. The stats are on the over 50k.
As someone says later in this thread. ‘You can’t just make up your own facts’

LMFAO, Iowa has one of the best game day atmospheres in the country. Go to OSU or Michigan, and all you will be met with is parking lots full of tailgaters. The neighborhoods around the stadium make it an environment rare in college football.
Tailgating in the neighborhoods is the best!

Assured.

Dipshit, they just put in a new skating rink in downtown. They are building a new aquatics facility, and like I previously mentioned, there is that 200 million dollar project going in downtown.

Perhaps your "guy" thinks he had the right to just dictate things like Trump does. With college towns, you are always going to have to move at a slower pace due to the fact that there are so many different opinions.

We’ll have to agree to disagree.

Wake me when the downtown project happens. As it stands it’s just a proposal. If history is any guide it’ll never happen.

Ames leadership wants it to stay a small town and has resisted growth/change at every opportunity. If you think that’s a position unique to me you’re wrong.

As to the parking, I can’t find the exact number and honestly I don’t want to look it up.

But the east side (D) of the stadium parking used to be free parking that took hundreds of spots. Now there is the RV lot, and all of those spots are now for cars. It was basically neutral.

Iowa has trailed ISU since Playboy featured "Girls of the Big 8" and ISU was repped by that chick with the massive rack.

Forget the Soukup Silo, bring back a Silly Silo!

Why that hotel looks like the one already south of Melrose on Kinnick. And we already have a world class medical "clinic" right next to Kinnick, lol.

With regards to Kinnicks location, access, and parking. It's not all that bad of a feel, though every game I've been too I take the train from Coralville. It is a cluster.

Over in the area by the track facility I've always wish they could build a little parking ramp somewhere over there.

For events at carver, The parking situation for carver sucks if you hate walking and also want to leave right after the event.

Didn't I read where Fischer Auditorium and CY Stephens were falling apart because ISU didn't have the funds to fix them?

I've never seen the appeal of JTS' giant parking lot. I like Kinnick feeling like part of a neighborhood.

I’ve always thought the same.

Perhaps it’s because I’ve grown up at Kinnick, so it has my heart, but rows and rows of cars doesn’t have a special feel to it.

While I’m not a fan of the new ramp in the north, I like that I have many different options I can experience on game day. We can start down town at a local bar/restaurant if we please, head across the bridge to a wild scene on Melrose, hit the Combine quick to see what company is throwing the party this week, and then head over to the dental/baseball lot for a good time.

I do miss the Melrose Ct lot.

Grew up in the shit hole that is Ames. Atmosphere and feel around the stadium is shit. Kinnick is in the neighborhood, it’s ingrained into the town, isu has a stadium surrounded by concrete/grass/ and the loss of hopes and dreams. Let em build whatever over there it won’t change much.

For visiting team’s to Ames, the wide open spaces to tailgate is nice. Don’t have to worry about finding a spot.

Kinnick is Wrigley Field to Iowa. All they have to do is not F it up.

I don't want anyone to misinterpret my feelings about ISU. I'm an Iowa grad and diehard hawkeye....but when you see someone else do some things right, you should take notice. U of Iowa under Barta was a massive failure.

They are basically trying to recreate a Power and Light district on a smaller scale in Ames. I guess we will see how it all shakes out as it is a risky move. They do have the open land to try something like this which UI doesn't have that same luxury.

So, the people in Jack Trice and Hilton are “flat out slobs.” Even without alcohol. In appreciation of that, let’s spends millions expanding on the tailgating experience around both venues that are immersed in alcohol, while pissing off the city of Ames. Brilliant.
