Iowa Freshman Quarterback James Resar Moved to Wide Receiver

Iowa has recruited a lot of good HS QBs that became stars at other positions. McNutt and DJK were HS QBs.
You’re absolutely correct.

The only thing you might be suggesting that is objectively false, is that DJK came in as a QB. Unlike McNutt, DJK was recruited to play WR. If we’re talking about guys that just played QB in HS, then the list at every school in America is a long one.

In no way does suggest they have recruited/developed the position of QB over the last several years.

Chad Greenway was also a high school QB....I'd say that worked out well too! 😀

It sounds like Marco's issue may not be injury, but an unannounced portal entry. On his Wed podcast, Chad eluded to this, but said he didn't want to be the one to "announce anything". So yeah, sounds like he gone.
This doesn't make any sense as to why Iowa would place him as the #2 QB.

Assuming Lester sticks around. I bet he jumps at the next opportunity.
Maybe? I have no reason believe that, but almost anyone on staff that gets a much better opportunity will jump.

I doubt he leaves just to leave. He’s got a pretty good gig right now.

I knew you were joking but I also really think Kirk would rather have his running backs, WRs, slot guys and tight ends taking the collisions. Running qbs are great especially ones who are good passers so they need to know when to slide.

Then there are those QBs like CJB and Drew Tate who smell the pylon and the first down markers in key situations and will take a hit. CJB made that last second lunge against Pitt in 2015 to get a few extra yards for Koehn's 57 yard fg. Otherwise, slide your butt on the ground qb. I was at Evanston when Tate took off, lept and got hit, and did a 360 in the air into the endzone, amazing skill and effort
Tate was fearless no doubt almost to a fault. As for the endzone play yes great effort, but doing a 360 in the air doesn't take skill, its just takes being the projectile being spun entirely around in the air..Lolol...

The improvement in QB and WR recruiting will have to improve together along with increased improveent in the passing game. Even 4 star WRs are not going to come here if we are not throwing 25 to 30 passes a game, taking some shots, hitting play pass plays.

Already this year the passing yardage per game is better and the completion percentage is better. Better passing stats will show recruits we want to throw the ball.

I hope even next year we are getting about 200 yards per game each passing and running and around a 400 yard per game total. Top recruits will want to come here. Right now ISM and Charley Jones are in the NFL so even to have a couple of receivers like that and a taller jump ball type receiver would be great on our team.

And CJB could sling the ball and make some great throws which has kept him in the NFL for 8 years.
Iowa's passing game is still abysmal and one of the worst in the entire country. As horrific as it was last year, it is only marginally better this year in terms of YPG with 19 yards more per game. A lot of that is on Cade. He's been the worst component of Iowa's offense by far and explains more than anything the poor production. KJ 's success on the ground has created opportunities in the passing game that Cade wasn't capable of capitalizing on.

People like to use the word complementary when discussing the relationship between offense and defense. It's more important when discussing the running and passing game. KJ's success means the play action and option stuff has been there for the taking all season long. Assuming Sullivan can play at least competently, the offense overall takes a decent step forward.

And if he turns our offense around he will be a prime candidate to replace KF in a couple years.

So the coaches recruited a qb with "weak throwing ability" in a system that needs a great passer? I guess they thought they could coach him up, work on his strength and technigue, and make him a much better passer. But now not!!!

But that is just the quizzical recruiting action. Really, if he has blazing speed and can really run routes and catch then it might make sense. If he has the frame around 6' 4" or so then he could be an excellent tight end.

We shall see and I will pull for him. But I also wonder about our recruiting process with qbs
Kirk has said that his athleticism intrigued them about Resar when they recruited him. It doesn't necessarily say anything about the recruiting process at QB. We often recruit good athletes who played quarterback in high school who excel at other positions in college. At full strength we have a pretty full QB room. I see this as a net plus all the way around.
