Here are the CBB programs that are *estimated* to have spent the most NIL money on incoming transfers this offseason so far.

Michigan 8.8M
Kentucky 7.6M
Maryland 7.1M
Miami 7.1M
Iowa 6.6M
Virginia 6.2M
Washington 5.9M
Creighton 5.6M
Georgetown 5.5M
Xavier 5.5M

These are ballpark numbers using the Front Office Suite at http://EvanMiya.com based on what every player should theoretically be worth in NIL, accounting for current market rates.

Reminder: This is just talking about money to transfers, not the whole roster.

Not buying that. Calling BS.

Before you and and @Jeff1950 call it BS, consider the following:

I know Iowa had at least $5.10M to spend in total for 2025-2026 but boosters, obviously, with the coaching change, seem to have come to the table.

Where I got that $5.10M minimum figure:

$1.50M: NIL paid to players LAST SEASON (was sure to go up & it has)
$3.60M: Revenue sharing expected to be paid to MBB players in 2025-2026 by high major schools
...........................................
$5.10M Total

I know for a fact that there are boosters who have stepped in with money as a result of the coaching change.

You think they spent more?
No

The article said spent $6.6M. Jirak would get very little. Four Drake players are mid-major transfers so maybe $1.6M. Two were not starters. Koch probably arpund $400K. Stirtz around $1.3 to $1.5M and Hausen maybe $1M. Total 4.5M.

After we bring in a big or two we may get to $6.6M

Just my guesstimate.

Laughing because this is all insane. Crazy times.

Might have been something to it when Ben said that the NIL had been "drastically" improved. Guess he was telling us the truth if this number is remotely accurate. Doesn't sound like they are done yet, either.

I'd love to know how much money is actually still available.

Curious how this kind of NIL money compares with the last couple years. Did someone(s) donate a bunch of money to get rid of McCaffrey and attract a new coach? Now I'll always kind of wonder with Fran could have done with $6.6 million to go buy some talent.
I don't know, but I kept hearing that $1.5M was the number that Fran had to spend on last year's team team. I can't vouch for that, but it's what I kept seeing posted out here.

Fran had quite a bit of talent during the Garza/Murray years, and in my opinion seriously underperformed with it.

In Gunner’s defense, it essentially says it’s a guess right in the tweet.

They are saying what they think these kids are worth, but a guy like Stirtz for example is likely getting less than he’s worth.

I doubt that number is accurate. I’d be elated to find out Iowa was able to spend that much when the entire roster is filled out.

Much like that tweet. None of us know the answer.

IDK, but seems very high, especially when we still have a couple of bigs, a SG, and a PG, that we are after and aren't going to be cheap. $6.6 M when we are done would be a lot more believable.

I'll bet this is about what we've paid so far:
1. Stirtz - $2M
2. Haussen - $1.2M
3. Cam - $800k
4. Combs, Howard, Banks - $1.2M ($400k each)
5. Jirak - $500k

That's $5.7M.
That sounds and looks about right. Banks to me is clearly worth more than Cam and I understand we need a shooter in Mac's offense but 1.2 for basically a 1 dimensional player is just insane. The guys who graduated 4-5 years ago have to be kicking themselves. And I get that it's all just guesswork.

You're probably not far off.

$2M. Wow.

Any way, I just laugh and shake me head when seeing these numbers that players are (or potentially are) getting paid. Eventually this will all feel normal, I guess....

I don't know that there is a silver lining in this NIL stuff, but there will be a lot of players that are not going to be playing in the NBA or even overseas. Many of them won't finish their degrees either. At least they will have an opportunity to maximize their earnings off what they're likely best at and have a life when it's over. I don't know that I agree with millions or even hundreds of thousands, but if that is what the market currently provides, I'd be hitting it while it's hot.

Yep, they weren't going to give Fran any more $ when he spent 1.5M and that was all the better he could do.

I have no idea what they actually received. Hall, the back up PG from BYU reportedly got ~$2M, and I would have preferred to have Stirtz. Hearing many places bench guys are getting a few hundred K each, let alone starters. I think you might be underselling inflation in the portal, but again just my guesstimate so no more valuable than yours.

How do they know current market value? Has anyone ever seen a deal with proof or written.

"based on what every player should theoretically be worth in NIL, accounting for current market rates."

I have never seen reveal on what a player is getting, just everyone thinking they know.

Exactly. Numbers thrown out everywhere. We supposedly had no money and now we’re nearly the top in spending? And yet BYU is supposedly tossing out 4 million a year to a guy? I’m just not buying.

6.6 million is insane. Our total NIL last year was around 4 million, no? And we only have 7 players so far?

This is possible, since we are replacing our entire roster. Most teams are landing 2 or 3 transfers, so of course they aren't paying as much as Iowa which is landing 8 to 12 players.

These new figures include the university-support revenue-sharing, which wasn't part of past numbers, but will be now. Iowa will be with the pack near the top of that list.

Iowa being among the spending leaders makes total, absolute sense.

As for specific numbers, of course they'll all need to be discounted.

What is believable is the team rankings, in a fuzzy way.
