Iowa LB Nicholas Wilson - DUI, Driving under Suspended License

Was he at/invited to camp? I don't remember seeing or hearing anything on him.

Didn't take long after camp for him to hit the town.

I'm guessing we won't have to wait for two more incidents for Kirk to send a message. As stupid as this was I bet Wilson has figured out he's in deep ......

I also notice that no Hawk fans are on here are arguing that it's no big deal.

correct, it is a big deal.. I hate one game suspension for these types of things.. Send him home!

I don't think he should necessarily be sent home. If he has a good attitude make him earn his way back in their good graces. If he can't or won't, then boot him.

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - University of Iowa football student-athlete Nick Wilson was cited by Iowa City law enforcement officials Saturday evening in Iowa City.

Wilson is a redshirt freshman and a native of Granger, Iowa. He attended West Des Moines Dowling High School and redshirted in 2015. Wilson is not among the 105 team members taking part in preseason camp prior to the start of fall semester classes.

UI athletics department officials are in the process of gathering facts in regards to the incident. Wilson is subject to established university protocol in regards to the UI student life code of conduct and team rules and regulations set for members of the football program.

Two things, the coach at Nebraska, that was his first DUI at Nebraska, especially ruining his "second chance", or should be ruining it. Second thing, he needs help.

So is it a pretty bad sign when a scholarship player isn't invited to camp in their second year? As in he isnt anywhere near the depth chart?

Did they confirm if it was a moped? Too lazy to read.

I agree he needs help, but if his first two offenses were at the sisters of the poor it still is his 3rd offense. If he's driving on the same road with your family or friends I think you'd agree. It will be interesting to watch the Nebraska legal system address this. I wonder how soon Nebraska puts him in a university car again.

I'm sure Kirk will handle it right. Kids do make mistakes, and I have been behind the wheel when I shouldn't have been, so I'm certainly not trying to come across as holier then thou.

However, I've also buried friends hit by drunk drivers and a slap on the wrist just doesn't do it for me. He's young and hopefully he gets the serious nature of his action. He may very well be a good kid, but his suspended lic. leads me to guess this isn't his first bad judgement. I hope he's paying his own insurance as the financial reality of his situation may help him to wake up.

I forgot, nobody on this board has ever drank and drove....

Are you stupid or just trying to be a troll... It's a serious offense. A good number of employers would let someone go for that offense. By making it seem like a non-nonchalant offense, you are essentially saying it's okay and ignoring the thousands that die from drunk drivers every year.

I have been a beer enthusiast for more than two decades. Although with age I have cut back (The older you get the less you can handle) I will be the first to say I have NEVER EVER in my life got behind the wheel of a car after drinking any amount of alcohol. I am sorry to admit there have been many times that I simply over-consumed..but I have never drove after drinking. I would hope there are very few people who have drank and drove before...very few...All it takes is the wrong person at the wrong place and you could find yourself in prison for vehicular homicide...all it takes is a BAC over .08...even if you are not really impaired you are going to prison if you are behind the wheel involved in a death.

Good for you.

Most people have driven drunk at some point in their lives but it comes down to if you learn to not do it anymore. I had a close call and that was it for me.

Whether we have or haven't isn't the point - society needs to work hard on having people NEVER drive drunk - period! Too many lives taken and lives changed by drunk driving - no excuses! You make this mistake and it should be a harsh penalty - if not - it won't change the way we think and behave! Young, old it doesn't matter - we don't want people to have to learn from close calls - this is why lives are being lost in the first place!

Thought he was a walk on too. Didn't realize he was on scholarship.

A red shirt freshman on scholarship not invited to camp. Wondering if he is going to make it.

Rumor has it he was in the dog house already for bad grades. Personally, I would move on to opening up his scholarship for someone else.

It's the State of Iowa and the DOT who have primary responsibility for punishment (and it will be harsh), not the Iowa football program.

So that makes it okay for everyone to drink and drive? Sorry about killing your family, guy, but everyone drinks and drives. Okay, so you just admitted that you drink and drive otherwise why the defensive posture about the most irresponsible way to act behind the wheel of a car?

I remember a couple years ago when he got the offer..was sitting at the basketball game in January. Fall back last minute offer. Back when most hated KF. Was jealous of the head of hair he had

Well, most of it is societal. You watch TV for a 4 hour block and how many beer/liquor commercials will you see? Right or wrong it is an accepted practice to use and even abuse alcohol in mainstream America.

It's not a great sign. They can invite 105 to camp (I think). If you aren't among that group, that does not bode all that well for your future.
