On another thread, there has been a lot of discussion about how Iowa produces only linemen, linebackers and tight ends that are as good as the best players from the football 'hotspots' around the country and in The League. Part of the argument has been about Iowa (the university) and the other part about Iowa (the state). For me, what matters is the U - because once you're a Hawkeye, you're also at least an adopted Iowan.

And to that end, I'd like to mention a few memorable names - like Bobby Sanders, Merton Hanks, Desmond King, Bob Jeter, and Jovon Johnson, a recent Defensive MVP of the Canadian Football League. Let's also add a few other defensive backs from the Fry and Ferentz eras who have had considerable careers or have spent time in the NFL: Tyler Sash, Micah Hyde, Bradley Fletcher, Charles Godfrey, Shaun Prater, Jordan Bernstine, Amari Spievey, Sean Considine, Derek Pagel, Matt Bowen, Kerry Cooks, Damien Robinson, Devon Mitchell, John Lowdermilk, Tanner Miller, and I am missing a few. Plus there's this year and next year's NFL crop of newcomer DB's.

I think it is time to add 'DB's' to that list of positions that Iowa is 'famous' for..

Iowa was noted for DB's well before the Fry & Ferentz eras too.

In the other thread I was talking more about the "state" of Iowa. I realize the U of Iowa has had some solid DB's in the past. They also have had some good WR's, TE's, and other positions as well. My argument was the state of Iowa has not produced a lot of talent in the skill positions. They do a great job of producing OL/DL, TE's, and LBs. They are one of the best in those positions. But when it comes to skill players, Iowa just does not produce as many. I just wonder why?

I was in Canton last month and saw a couple of Iowa DB's there. Most of you aren't old enough to know the names, but there is definitely history.
