Iowa media fighting amongst themselves

1) Do the guys from this site even have press credentials? For the little bit that I had left on my premium sub, they didn't seem to cover a whole lot indepth. Not sure they have the credentials.

2) I probably wouldn't go either. I could just grab my notes from the previous 15 or so pressers and write an article and it wouldn't be inaccurate.

Good questions. Also, it seems like some of the guys stayed back to cover the basketball team tonight.

(Full disclosure: I didn’t even realize the men’s hoops team had a game tonight until a few minutes ago)

Is this a fight or a misunderstanding? I’m sure if Leistikow knew of Eickholt’s situation he would not have said anything that would be construed against him. Eickholt even said he didn’t tell anyone. Tempest in a teapot.
While I understand and sympathize with Eickholt needing to take care of himself, it’s totally unprofessional not to tell bosses who are counting on him to be on site covering Iowa’s preparation for and appearance in a New Year’s Day bowl game.

I don’t get the impression that anything Leistikow said was meant to be critical of those not in attendance
I agree. I took it more as a note that those on-site would be the only ones with direct access, i.e - anything 'breaking' would have had to come from one of them to be legit.

Nothing about Leistikow's demeanor would ever suggest he'd be taking shots like that (that I've ever seen anyway)

Chad probably wasn’t calling anyone out specifically, but I’m sure he’s aware of how insanely jealous Pat Harty is of him since Pat got canned from the Press Citizen.

Pat repeatedly bashes Chad on his podcast without saying Chad’s name specifically. It’s funny because Harty doesn’t even proof read his own shit. Then he bashes Chad’s quality of work at an actual newspaper. Pat’s a very bitter individual.

Agreed, unless there is a back story. But David is a whiner. He feels a need to reply to everyone on twitter. He acts like two people on twitter saying something has any relevance. You can tell he wants to be friends with the players as much as being a professional.
A whiner with silly panic attacks. What a guy.

I understand why they are mad. DE is sitting on his couch watching the videos from the player interviews (not just the podium interviews but the interviews these guys did on the side with players after practices) that these guys did and posted and then is posting their quotes without credit. I get it, anyone can just share quotes from what was said, but in media, you give credit. Keith Murphy gave credit in all of his posts from the player interviews.

At least when DE was stealing quotes made by Cade when he was on the Vandeburg podcast he gave that podcast credit.

They all pretty much write the same vanilla stuff. Then they circle jerk and pat each other on the back about how great each others articles are. Not sure what Dorkterman said but Kakert chimed in with kind of a snide reply. He has really turned into a Dbag though. Face for radio and a voice for newspaper. Had to listen to his whiney voice a lot on AM radio.

Kluver tweeted something about working from Waukee. But when you have to search and search on X for the story and it takes awhile before it shows up here, I'm not sure how necessary it is to reply to it.

All of those guys should worry more about getting up the nerve to ask a follow up question when they get some line of BS about Deacon playing really well at QB and winning games. But hey read my article about Brian talking to us!

What led to Harty being let go? Just jot enough of a budget?

If anything, the tweet is a comment on the current state of reporting. Four journalists have someone paying for them to be at the Hawkeye bowl game. Newspapers basically don't exist. Harty and co can't justify the expense of being there, and just write columns from afar.
This^^^. It’s a dog eat dog industry right now. They’re all fighting for subscribers and clicks. I don’t fault Chad at all pointing out who’s there and who’s not. They made the investment which I’m sure wasn’t cheap and are looking to promote their brand. Simple as that.

Kakert is a sad sack of shit.

I have a feeling Chad will delete his tweet once he learns David Eickholt of 24/7 is having some mental health issues and therefore was unable to travel to Orlando. In case Chad does delete it, this is what Chad posted at 3:51 pm CT on Dec 28: "Only 4 writers were here today for open practice & Hawkeye interviews: Scott Dochterman (the Athletic), Tom Kakert (On3), John Steppe (the Gazette) and myself (Register/Press Citizen). Some TV, too. Been a pretty intimate media gathering thus far in Orlando."

Tom Kakert then chimed in. Tom is very thin skinned and does not like David Eickholt of 24/7. Why? Probably because David is young, has a big following and because Tom has lost subscribers to 24/7. I am sure there are other reasons. Tom replied to Chad's tweet with a petty comment to the tune of "Some of us are actually at the bowl site covering the bowl game as opposed to covering it from home. Unfortunately we are wired that way." Tom and David obviously monitor what each posts; Tom, after seeing what David posted about his panic attacks, has deleted his petty tweet.

EDIT: This is a screen shot of the now deleted post:

This is not the first time Tom has taken petty shots at David. When the Iowa baseball team was making a run towards the NCAA Tournament last spring, Tom made a comment that his site had been covering the team all season long whereas some reporters had just jumped on the bandwagon. David responded to this and many people called Tom out for being so petty and childish.

David's tweet got cut off but here is the full text:

Because there have been direct shots at me from notable people, I now feel the need to defend myself about why I'm not on-site covering Iowa's bowl game against Tennessee.

Just after Signing Day, I suffered a severe panic attack, which was one of the worst experiences of my life. I took care of what needed to be taken care of and am happy with the steps that have been taken. But I made the difficult decision not to travel to Orlando.

I elected not to tell anyone about my experience including my bosses, Sean Bock, my media colleagues and immediate family. This will be the first they are hearing of it. Instead, I stayed quiet and wanted to focus on my work while I take care of myself.

I have worked every single day extensively because I truly love my job, the athletes/coaches I cover and the fans. I never wanted to make this public, but unfortunately, due to the nature of my line of work, my hand was forced.

Be kind, spread joy to others and don't be afraid to seek help when you need it. People are good and they want to help.

jealous people can be very thin skinned. I won't name him but a guy that has been named above and I had an issue a couple years ago and I would even bet that even he would admit was so wrong . Well, maybe not , he probably wouldn't . Still shake my head at what he did . Just glad he isn't on this site anymore
