From your mouth to God's earWith the possible exception of Oregon, the other teams coming in from the PAC-12 are mediocre at best. Iowa will finish ahead of USC, UCLA and Washington.
I was a season ticket holder during those 3 years with my son and one of his friends, tell me about it.The Lick years was a deeper hole than most thought.
Just like Hilton was just a few short years ago in their historic zero conference win season. All about money now, School has absolutely nothing to do with the success of a program. As far as money goes, Iowa can absolutely afford to fire Fran. Iowa is swimming in athletic revenue. Can't afford to buy a team but damn sure can afford a coach. Two entirely different animals these days.Iowa is in a bad place, supposedly can not afford to fire Fran, and can not afford to keep Fran. You guys really need to bite the bullet and fire the guy. If you fall to 17th in this league, CHA will be 2/3 empty.
Fran has gotten his life changing pay day. The odds of next year being better than this year are slim to none.I was a season ticket holder during those 3 years with my son and one of his friends, tell me about it.
Fran may not have gotten Iowa to the second week of the Big Ten yet, but the seasons as a whole are so much better then under Todd. I still hold hope that Fran will get it done and then possibly leave on his own, but I know that's not the opinion of most of you.
Fran came to Iowa and recruited players to Iowa that wanted to come here, developed and for the most part stayed and graduated from Iowa. If Iowa never goes as far as some of our fans crave under Fran, I don't think it will be because Fran didn't try. The portal and the lack of NIL will be the main culprit.
I know Fran's is old school and coaching at this level may have passed him by, but I think he will know when it's time to leave which could be sooner then later, just hope that next year goes better then this year did and sends him off on a high note. He deserves that....
Regardless of Payton returning, what B1G team(s) do you honestly see Iowa being ahead of? 17th may be too generous. From what we know this simply is not a very good team.On April 10th he had us 17th in the B1G.
On May 30th, with Payton returning, he still has us at 17th in the B1G.
Wow.

I don't see them as one of Fran's strongest teams in his time at Iowa.when you look at our 12 scholarship roster, do you really think we are that bad?
Possible Starting 5:
6’3” PG Drew Thelwell (SR)
6'5" SG Josh Dix (JR)
6'7" F Payton Sandfort (SR)
6’7” PF Seydou Traore (SO)
6'10" C Owen Freeman (SO)
Next 5 off the bench:
6'0" PG Brock Harding (SO)
6'7" F Cooper Koch (FR)
6'7" F Pryce Sandfort (SO)
6'8" PF Ladji Dembele (SO)
6'8" PF Chris Tadjo (FR)
Other 2 scholarship players:
6'11" C Riley Mulvey (JR)
6'9" F/C Even Brauns (SR)
He probably expected Payton to return in his initial predictionOn April 10th he had us 17th in the B1G.
On May 30th, with Payton returning, he still has us at 17th in the B1G.

It’s tough when teams like Rutgers and Indiana are spending (or someone is spending) millions next year for guys to play 1 or maybe 2 years. Fran did a decent job in the portal, for what he could spend. Going to miss Perkins, but otherwise made some solid upgrades.I think this will be a very good Iowa team next year. Who don’t you see Iowa ahead of? We have 3 guys in Sandfort, Dix and Freeman who will likely be on the All Big 1st, 2nd or 3rd team. We’ve added experience and depth at point and some athleticism on the front line. If we don’t finish in the top 5 I’ll be disappointed.

He has already received more than he deserves in the number of years he has been allowed to coach at Iowa with mediocre results. Factor in his behavior on the court and in the community, he deserves nothing more.
"Who don’t you see Iowa ahead of?" lol are you kidding me with this...?I think this will be a very good Iowa team next year. Who don’t you see Iowa ahead of? not to mention "legitimate businessmen"Rutgers is tapping into Wall St. and Corporations in NY/NJ. Lots of Rutgers grads in management for those companies.
Fran will surprise with Payton coming back. I’ll go out on a limb and say the team ties for 7th place regular season.
Watch out. That limb doesn’t look particularly strong…Fran will surprise with Payton coming back. I’ll go out on a limb and say the team ties for 7th place regular season.
Yeah that team honestly looks like ass. We needed another guard or two.I don't see them as one of Fran's strongest teams in his time at Iowa.

Most likely:
Purdue
Indiana
Michigan State
UCLA
Michigan
Ohio State
Maryland
Oregon
Illinois
and probably:
Rutgers
USC
Wisconsin
Washington
And maybe:
Northwestern
Nebraska
This is not anywhere close to a top 5 roster. You are completely out of your mind.
This exact core of 3 plus Perkins, Bowen, Krikke and Patrick was good enough to finish 8th in the league, miss the tourney and lose to freaking Utah in the second round of the NIT.
Now you're going to subtract Perkins, Pat and Krikke and replace Perkins with a dude who averaged 10 ppg at Morehead Freaking State, and pat and Krikke with a 11 ppg soph from Manhattan freaking College....and with a straight face call that an "upgrade"? lol
You're deluded.
You're one of those fans who every year thinks we have 5 guys who will be all big ten but can't name 2 players on any other team in the league, let alone know how good any of them are. lol
I really don't care to look but I would conservatively guess that you picked Iowa to finish in the top half of the league last year or probably even top 5, and was certain that we were a lock for the tourney. Right?
I'm certainly not going to vouch for Andy Katz because he's terrible but analytics engines like Torvik currently have us at 16th in the league. So....who's crazier -- a guy who projects us as 17th or a guy who projects us as top 5?
C'mon man...
The fact that you think losing Krikke, Bowen and PMac is a negative tells me everything I need to know about your analysis."Who don’t you see Iowa ahead of?" lol are you kidding me with this...?

We will be better defensively
It tells me that we have lost significant scoring that is not going to be replaced by two dudes that averaged 10 ppg at moorhead State and Manhattan college. The fact that you think losing Krikke, Bowen and PMac is a negative tells me everything I need to know about your analysis.

Literally LMAO that you think losing Perkins - a second team all big ten player -- and replacing him with Thelwell is an upgrade.
Thelwell against B1G competition last year:
Purdue -- 8 in a 30 pt blowout
Illinois -- 8 in a 20 pt blowout
Penn St -- 7 in 20 pt blowout
Indiana -- 9 in 1 pt loss
lol
Bowen was Big Ten proven guard depth. He's gone. Who did we replace him with? No one. How is that a net positive? Who did we replace Big Ten experienced PMac with? No one. How is that a net positive?
Please explain what you're seeing with your especially keen basketball mind that everyone else seems to be missing.
Go ahead. We're all waiting....
I'm not ignoring anything. You seem a little insecure.
Pretty simple. You’re ignoring a 3 player nucleus of Sandfort, Dix and Freeman that is as good as any 3 in the league. Perkins is a loss, but Thelwell is a 5th year senior point guard from an NCAA tournament team last year. Harding has shown a lot of promise as well. Our problems last year were lack of defense, athleticism and rebounding. The new guys and progression in players like Dembele will alleviate those issues. Subtracting Krikke and PMac solves a lot of problems.
And I think you vastly overestimate the strength of the Big. A lot of mediocre teams, bad coaches and heavy losses to the NBA/transfers.

Fair, but it’s also nowhere near his worst, which is what 17th place would likely mean.I don't see them as one of Fran's strongest teams in his time at Iowa.
Idk about top 5, at least until I get a chance to see some of these other teams next year, but I expect Iowa to be in ncaa tourney next year. I think our conference schedule is favorable for the first time in a few a years - home and aways are nebby, Wisconsin and northwestern if I recall; compared to having to play Illinois/purdue twice last year for example.I think this will be a very good Iowa team next year. It seems hyperbolic to use terms like “completely out of your mind” and “ delusional” when you can say things like “I have a VERY different opinion” or “I don’t think that’s close” and then go on to state your reasoning."Who don’t you see Iowa ahead of?" lol are you kidding me with this...?

Let's say I believe you (I don't). What do you mean by "better"?
We finished the season with a DER ranked in the 150s (157 in kenpom, 152 in Torvik). What does better look like to you?
120th?
50th?
Top 20?
.. .Because in order for it to make a significant difference in win total, we're going to have to be in the top 75 (at least).
Do you honestly see that happening just because Krikke and pmac are now gone? Again, I have zero reason to believe this. Neither of the transfers: 1) are Big Ten proven; or 2) were particularly defensive standouts at Morehead State or Manhattan -- both of which are a significant step down in competition and physicality.
Just sounds like baseless hope/cope to me.
