Iowa Men 17th in the B1G this season? Field of 68 (Sean Paul) has Iowa 6th

Probably not but I don’t have any idea. This year is the year I was mentioning, next year is a long ways away

IIRC, Fran seems to put a guy on scholarship and then that player ends up transferring at the end of that season with 1 year eligibility remaining

will be interesting to see if that happens with Carter

Certainly a lot of competition at PF. I think it will be either Dembele, who is a 4/5, or Traore, who is a 3/4. Both will get a lot of minutes. Koch and Tadjo could also earn minutes. Fran will have some nice options at 3-5, much better than last year. Our lack of depth at guard is my biggest concern. If anyone gets hurt, we won't have many good options IMO.

yeah, guard depth is a huge issue

What are you talking about? Point guards in no specific order, Brock Harding, Drew Thelwell, Josh Dix, Off guard in no specific order, Josh Dix, Drew Thelwell, Pryce Sandford, Payton Sandford, Carter Kingsbury. How many do you need? Might be the best guards Iowa has had in many moons. Injuries are always a crap shoot on every team, but let's not go there until it's an issue, right now it's not.

Huh? There are 3 major college guards to play two positions. Pryce can probably be off the bench a 2, but if Carter Kingsbury is getting more than meaningless minutes, Iowa will not win half its games in the B1G.

There are years we’ve had far worse depth. I feel pretty good about Drew as our third option at point. The 2 guard is a lot more flexible and I think Pryce will surprise people this season.

Is Drew our third option at PG? I think Thelwell and Harding are the options for almost all of the minutes at PG, and not sure which guy will start. Both will get a lot of minutes. If one of them gets hurt, I really don't want to have to move Dix to PG. Thelwell can also play some at 2, but I expect Dix to be getting about 30 min at the 2. If he gets hurt, it will also be a huge hit. Pryce can match up with bigger 2s. I expect to see him as the primary back up at 2. We are a lot deeper inside, although Freeman would be a huge hit if he went down.

If we lose Brock or Drew to injury we are in deep shite. Not that Dix isn't a very good player, he's just not a BIG pg and we've seen it. Payton, Carter and even Pryce trying to defend the 2 spot is a disaster looming.

That's true, and injury could always throw a monkey wrench into a season.

How often has Fran had to shut down a player due to injury? Seems odd to be harping on a potential injury when history under Fran shows it's pretty rare. Iowa has been pretty well conditioned with Fran.

Nunge, JBo, Fredrick? The only time I ever remember injuries really hurting this team was the end of the 2020-21 with JBo and Fredrick.

With apologies to Kingsbury, 3 guards who came on scholarship is a pretty thin roster. Even early foul trouble can hurt. Pryce can do OK against some 2's, but will have a hard time guarding quicker guards. I hope we don't find out whether Kingsbury can play extended minutes. I think I would prefer Traore try playing 2, as he did as a freshman, if a guard goes down for extended time.
