Iowa loses to NW 2-1 in 13 innings. Nick Hibbing started and went six allowing one run. Iowa's offense is putrid, we missed a couple chances with guys on 3rd with less than one out. If Iowa's offense continues like this going to be a LONG year and makes you wonder if it could be it for Dahm.
I agree with this 100%. Wisconsin doesn't have baseball but successfully puts its money in hockey. Now, I love baseball and hockey both, but if Iowa is not going to commit the resources to at least fielding a competitive baseball program in the BIG, then maybe it's time to look at hockey. The argument against it is the cost of the arena, but with the BTN continuing to make money hand over fist, I think that this is less of an obstacle now than ever before.Originally posted by Hawk-A-Doodle-Doo:
Ol' Doodle likes to think of himself as a man of rationality and patience. But the Jack Dahm experiment has been a failure and it is a glaring character flaw on Barta's part to perpetuate it past this season.
Consistently good to very yood recruiting classes persist in underperforming year after year. It's time for the ath dept to decide if they care about putting a winning product on the diamond. If so then take some of the money the department ia awash in, and spend it on a proven winner.
Otherwise, just sack up the bats and balls and put the baseball budget to use in a sport you DO have the desire to compete in like soccer or hockey.
For years now Doodle has feared he wouldn't live long enough to see the Hawks return to the CWS. Now, Ol' Doodle is convinced he won't live long enough to just see them make the overall NCAA tournament field.
We're approaching a quarter century since the last time it occurred. Enough is enough.

Iowa baseball has failed to capitalize on the elimination of BOTH state rival programs--when you're the only game in town and still can't draw enough recruits to succeed, it's hard to imagine another scenario that would drastically change the fate of the program (unless Cal Eldred decides to build us a new stadium).
Unlike baseball, I also think that Iowa would have a chance to build a very decent ice hockey program. We already know that Iowa fans would fill the stands for a Shuffleboard tournament if the team was successful--the only reason they aren't filling the stands for baseball is because the team has not given them any reason to believe in the direction of the program, and Banks Field is not a venue that offers any appeal whatsoever to the casual fan or young fans (or to potential recruits, for that matter). On the other hand, a person only needs to attend a major ice hockey game once to become a fan, if not hooked on the sport for life. The initial support would be there, and it would only get stronger given time.
