Hawkeyes were 3-5 against these teams... however, most of those games were played with a combination of a rookie QB, inexperienced receivers and two FRESHMEN tackles. If they win their bowl game, objectively speaking, it will have been a good year! (OMG, that loss to Purdue sucked.)

Again. If it weren’t for that pathetic Purdue game, and getting crushed by Wisconsin, this would have been a pretty solid season with some could, shoulda, woulda’s. Iowa has got to stop losing those games.

This sums up alot of seasons of Iowa football.

Maybe but in 2015 it was 'coulda, shoulda' lost to Pitt and Wisconsin...

2015 will always come up, when Iowa has a very mediocre year.
Oh and the one great game they played that year. OSU this year and
Michigan last year.

I was worried about Purdue and posted as such here. The Boilermakers are going to be back. They are well coached.

At least one of the teams was bowl eligible because of the turd the Hawks laid on Senior Day. But Iowa loses a game they are big favs in most seasons.

That's football, amirite?

Did anybody else in the country play more bowl teams than Iowa? ALL our non-conference opponents made a bowl, and we beat them all; Wyoming (Potato), North Texas (New Orleans) Iowa State (Liberty).

ISU played 10 -- assuming you count UNI's participation in the second round of the BCS playoff a bowl game. Kansas and Baylor somehow didn't get invited. Everybody else on the schedule did. Good guys were 5-5 against them.

I'm going with one can't count FCS teams as "bowl" teams. That would make Iowa and ISU one of very few teams to play 9 bowl teams and go to a bowl themselves. Each was 4-5 against them. Even Notre Dame's much vaunted schedule had 9 (they went 6-3 against them).

Would you rather we got smoked in those games like everyone predicted?

So does Oklahoma they've lost eight games to double digit dogs in the last seven years, 2 have been 30+ point underdogs....

And yes that's football

Cool - until you factor in most mediocre teams go to a bowl game this day in age.

Agree - one of the more frustrating things about the Ferentz era. Looking back over the years, if the Hawks beat the teams they should (favored in) each season, they would be a consistent top 20 program every year with the occasional top 10 finish and bowling every season.

FWIW we were dogs in 5 games...and honestly what you just said encompasses pretty much every team to a degree.

As I said above about Ou, Clemson, etc...

Who beat two top 5 teams? Also, who's records are you counting any why are you counting losses.

Iowa State, and you have the ability to go and look at Iowas schedule just like me....top 6 schedule, that's above and beyond even for a historical critic like you!

Playing a lot of "bowl teams" stopped meaning anything a long time ago. You do realize that about 70 percent of D-1 teams are "bowl" teams, right?

Like usual, you are a hyperbole spewing idiot. Do you know how to make a point intelligently and using facts? I would bet you are a Trumpster and you have listed that you went to the school of 'hard knocks' on your FB page. You certainly are no 'Aristotle' and if you paid for higher education, you should try to get your money back.

Quite the assumption. No. I do not consider teams that don't go to bowls as being bowl teams. Call me crazy.

Totally agree with you, but a Ferentz team has never been consistent, and never will be.

Minnesota and Nebraska both got placed in (wink, wink) "Bowl Games" with sub .500 records. 75 % of the teams in "Bowl Games" should be at home thinking of ways to be good enough to actually be in a real Bowl Game, with honest to goodness deserving teams. The ones that are rewarded for exemplary seasons.

A dozen Bowl Games would be plenty, and have most of the country actually give a damn about viewing them.

It's that 6-3 thing that gets us. After we win the bowl we will be .500 against bowl teams. "Good". (Good work outta you on the records.)
